DD = ? DE = ? DM ?

If three ships all have the same weapons and crew but are classified as DD,DE, and DM will they perform the same in combat? The only reason I'm asking is that in some older GG games there were weights that were assigned to the formulas based on type. Since we don't have the formulas for this game I want to know if it is the same before I start editing ships.

Not sure, Mike thinks the DD and DE are the same but wasn't sure about the DM. I'll ask Gary tomorrow.

Thank you. It is greatly appreciated.

Also, while you are at it, what are the Jet and Electronic warfare plane types for? Are they just placeholders for future development or do they have an effect on the game?

The answer on the DD/DE/DM question is that there are at least two effects we know of. First, ships try to match up with like type ships. The DD's fall into one class, while the others fall into the "small warship" category. Thus, there is a greater chance that the non-DD ships will fire at other small ships instead of firing at a DD. Ships are also assigned a "selection value" that determines the likelihood that they will be targeted by other ships. The DDs have a larger selection value than the smaller warships so they will tend to be targeted more often. Ships that are targeted will shoot back, whereas ships that are not targeted may not find a valid target to shoot at, so in general DD's will be more involved in surface combat than the smaller warships.

As for the jets and electronic warfare, I don't think they are hooked up properly in the game so I suggest staying away from them. They're either a carryover from old games or Gary thinking about the future when he set this up. Either way, I don't think the game has the correct mechanisms to deal with these.

There really is alot going on under the hood, when you watch those ships fire at each other.
