When you replace a leader where doe the leader come from? A pool? Are you stealing a leader from another force?

They are unassigned commanders in the pool. You don't take one from another unit or anything.

Rogueusmc, I think you might be wrong. I believe some of the available leaders are in a pool, but leaders already assigned to other LCU's will be listed too. I was playing around with leaders in SE Asia (for allies), and I assigned Wavell to one unit (HQ type). I wanted to change the leader for another HQ unit and noticed that Wavell was one of the choices.

I would really like to see where a leader is currently stationed (pool or specific LCU) when picking a new leader. You spend PP's to change a leader and if you don't remember his name, you might reassign him later to another LCU. Then the original LCU you put him in would potentially need to have it's leader changed.

Some of the big admirals and generals are known to me. (I know MacArthur when I see him), but the small aviation group and LCU leaders are just names in a bucket to me. It really sucks to keep assigning the same leader to several units, then realize that all the PP's were wasted. (I also don't like proving that I don't pay enough attention to what I do. PBEM would kick my @$$) [:D]

2 Wavells????

Then that means, than I'm wrong, Rogueusmc is correct, changing a leader will only show you available leaders and that if you want to move a leader you must first replace him in his original LCU and then assign him in the new LCU.

I prefer the system as it is, assuming the pool only shows unasigned leaders. the way I orignally thought it worked has the drawbacks I already listed.

I'll definitely test this when I can play again (not till tomorrow [:(])
