Memory Leak?

Now most of you probably don't have the same issues I have - you've probably updated your PC in the past year. Well I have a P3-600 with 390MB ram but I do have a pretty capable 3d card (don't know why - never play fps games).
Anyway, I notice that the first turn I do in WitP I can enter and exit TF or base screens with only a passing lag, combat animations are partially out of synch (near-miss water spout come up about a half second after the sound). The whole conclusion of the results turn takes about 25 minutes.
The trouble starts in the next turn. If I try to go in and out of screens I get a noticable increase in lag and the combat result just took 51 minutes!!!
This has got to be something to do with the age and power of my machine - I am not blind to my power issues. However, this marked increase in time doesn't make sense. I can live with a 25 min turn completion but doubling that is horrendous.
By the way I have all the interim updates and have tried renaming the sounds folder. I also updated my graphics card drivers (this did fix a rendering prolem I had).
Anyone else notice this - I think you speed demons may not recognise the difference, but if there is a leak it should start to manifest itself after a few turns.
