I just downloaded version 7(dos) of SPWAW b/c I saw it posted at Wargamer, yet I see version 8.2 available at 400+ meg.

Whats the deal with versions which is newer and why is 7 toted as a new version?

There is a SPWW2v7 put out by SPCamo and there is SPWAWv8.2 put out by Matrix. They are not the same game, just different versions using different engines. You probably got SPWW2.

Or the long winded reply would be......

SSI Steel Panthers -> SSI Steel Panthers 2 Modern Battles -> SSI Steel Panthers 3 Brigade Combat -> Steel Panthers World at War (SPWaW) Matrix Games/Steel Panthers WW2 (SPWW2) SP Camo -> Steel Panthers Modern Battle Tank (SPMBT) SP Camo.

Via Matrix Games

Steel Panthers World at War v1 ,v2, v3, v4, v5, Steel Panthers Mega Campaign Desert Fox, v6, v7, Mega Campaign Lost Victories, Mega Campaign Watchtower, v8, Mega Campaign Screaming Eagles, Generals Edition.

Via SP Camo

Steel Panthers World War 2 v1, v2, v3, v4, v5, v6, v7
Steel Panthers Modern Battle Tank v1, v2, v3

The player may currently still buy and or play the three original commercial releases from SSI.
Or you can elect to use the three much improved/modified free download versions from either Matrix Games or SP Camo.

And yes, SPWaW and SPWW2 are NOT the same game. Don't even have the same software under the hood. Just the same purpose for existing.
