pad152,

Do you mean Type (pull down menu in the editor) as in AO, AE, CV etc. . . . or do you mean new class of AO, AE, CV, etc. . . . ? If the former then no can do. If the later then no problem, I've done it to test CV, CVL & CVE air group sizes with different capacities and air group mixes. The following does apply though:

From the manual

Certain ship classes must be left in their assigned slots as follows:
1) Japanese Ship Classes need to be located in slots 1-171 and 501-1199.
2) Allied Ship Classes need to be located in slots 172-499 and 1200-1999.
These devices can be altered, but they should never be moved.

From my Notes:
1) Japanese ship class slots 1-171 are where the designers put the original ships (as built), slots 501-1199 are where the designers put the ship upgrades.
2) Allied ship class slots 172-499 are where the designers put the original ships (as built), slots 1200-1999 are where the designers put the ship upgrades.

For my test I created (from scratch) CV, CVL and CVE in the appropiate (Japan/allied) upgrade slots with no problems so far (knock on wood).

Your saying we cannot create a whole new Class of ship, only use already
created Classes, able to Modify those classes data but just simply no editing in like a new class say a CVB as a Super Big Carrier Class, only modify CV,CVL,CVE established classes?

Cmdrcain,

Just to clarify:

Ship Type: AO, BB, CV, DD, etc. . . .
Ship Class: Essex class CV, Fletcher class DD, Yamato class BB, etc. . . .

Using the database editor you can create new (or modify existing) ship classes and ships but not ship types.

As an example: for a test scenario I created from scratch the following Gettysburg class CV with two ships Gettysburg and Shilo. Constellation class CVL with two ships Constellation and Congress. Ark Royal class CV with one ship the Ark Royal.

Rule of thumb for the other area of the database editor: Create new classes=yes. Create new types=no.

Isn't a CVB a battleship-carrier hybrid? Like the Ise class after conversion? You can't create a CVB because the AI wouldn't know what locig to use for it. Does it act like a CV and try to run in surfcae combat or act like a BB and try to duke it out with the other ships of the line? You'll have to make a choice: make it a BB and give it lots of planes (but it will only be able to launch floatplanes) or make it a CV and put big guns on it that it will probably never use. Neither one is really a desirable option.
You could make a bunch of floatplanes and give them the same charactistics of land-based planes so that they would fly off of a battleship. I'm not sure what kind of missions you can assign to floatplanes though.

If you just want a really large CV I believe you can make one with a capacity up to 127, which is what the Shinano would have had if it was used as a fleet CV instead of a floating plane construction/production/repair shop.

CVB was just an example, Its clear, you cant change the Type but you can change the Class of the Type So For a Super CV it would use the CV type but I'd create a Class Designition..
