Is the play a nice mix between Axis&Allies and Hearts of Iron

I was curious is the gameplay a nice balance of gameplay that is more strategic in nature versus specific battle oriented. I may get blasted here but , i really thought Axis and Allies was a pretty good game but lacked in depth. I am hoping this game will be what that one was missing. I personally have been looking for a more strategic game with enough depth (or configurable by player option) to make it interesting for long term play. I just hope it doesnt get bogged down by too many factors to be considered for each turn that it feels as though you are going through a painfull experience to enjoy a short lived victory on a couple of battle fronts.

I think you will find game play to be extremely rewarding. Though the maps do make it look a bit like A&A - there is so much more going on here.....its still designed to be fairly simple (and hit a wider audience) - though the grogs certainly won't be disappointed.

I'm only disappointed because my email server is down, and I can't receive any turns. [:@][:@][:@]

this game is definitely easy to pick up and play but takes alot of getting the little things down for the hardcore gamers such as myself. i think Maurice has the rulebook memorized but i am playing alot of Axis to become more efficient with my moes and expenditures. Supply is critical.
the game is awesome because it really make u force decisions and there are critical trade offs to be made based on factors that differ in each game. if your opponent out researches u in 1 area u often need to keep up. do u produce that extra inf unit to hold the line or put down partisans or produce a supply unit or research chit?? even though the AAr's might look similar i thin k only most gamers beta testers try to down the soviets in sp or su 1941 and head south as japanese in fa 1941.
hope this helps. it is a major advancement over Axis and Allies let me tell you. i like that game but it was not enough "squad leader complexity" for my long term playing -this on e is.
