........simply amazing. The amount of detail taken into account in this game. I haven't followed the forum much prior to purchasing the game, but I am stunned at all it does.

I have to completely agree, having never played a grigsby game before i was taking a huge gamble with this game, but it's turned out to be one of the greatest games i've ever played.

Hi, It's like watching the entire Pacific War in great detail one day at a time seeing where every action occurs and knowing exactly the who and whats. (Well from one side )

When reading accounts of the war I often do not understand completly where any specific event fit into the big pitcure. In playing I know why my units are doing what where are doing where they are doing it. I see problems that are often left unexplained in a book. (why units are idle or the full supply picture.) I think I've learned more from playing ths game then from all the books I've read prior. (Or at the least came to understand my books much more then I did. Simply looking at a map does not answer near as many questions as having a powerfull force idle or unusable because of logistics. Distance become more understandable when you can't escort bombers or send a TF because there are no oilers on hand. The land combat remains mostly abstracted in my understanding but certainly the naval and air aspects have become more focused from spending so many hours trying to organize it and produce results.

I like the detail. I shudder when I recall the early games I played where single cardboard counter represented an entire fleet or hundreds of mixed aircraft and they could be removed in a single action in a turn that could represent as many as 6 months of the war.

I like the fact the game is so long. For once I can "feel" the war from an Operational level and have to deal with all the things that actually impact "Operations"

Spot on, Mog.

I've also found a great appreciation for the Japanese war plan. If you're going to fight a war you can't win against three of the most powerful, and numerous other, nations, you can't do much better than they did. It's a great plan for a hopeless war.[:D]

First welcome back Mogami [:D]...second you know the game is very long when you look at your reinforcement lists and when they arrive and you struggle to convert the time into years before they arrive....[&:]

Hi, I don't look at it. Not ships, nor land units nor air groups. I check what I have on map from time to time to see if anything new has arrived that I did not notice before but I spend very little time counting reinforcements.

This game is amazing if not perfect. It gives you the pieces, the map, the time, and the rules to refight the Pacific War. All in great detail with an eye for historical accuracy. Just what I always wanted in a wargame.

I'm afraid the pace is beginning to bog me down, though. Of course, I'm playing Japan vs the AI now, but after investing most of my free time the past two weeks to the game, I am only on Jan 11, 1942!! Granted, this is the busy time for Japan, but damn....

Hi, Zoomie thats only 2 turns per day. Try cutting down on sleeping. I can do at least 10 turns in a 24 hour period and I think I've done as many as 40. (At 40 turns per day you can finish the entire war in around 42 days. (You can sleep when you finish)

Duh - me failed my sci exams....

I love all the sig pictures - yes I must make mine less high to take up less space sorry - and wish I had an artistic streak like others. But I'm holding up a flame for the forgotten war! Some even rotate their sigs - eg MadmanRick has at least three carrier fanboy one's I've seen.

Ought to start a best sig picture thread.

enough off topic..

I find AI turns are a lot faster compared to the level of thinking required for the PBEM games. The AI games i will often run at 3 day turns when nothing is happening or convoys are crossing the ocean, these often take only ten minutes to run as i switched off the combat reports etc.

Yup. Realized that after I finished it. I refuse to spend more than two minutes on a sig. Otherwise I'll end up tinkering with it for an hour in Photoshop.[:D]

well , some of us have job(s), wife(s) and kid(s). IF I do 5 turns a day, I'm happy. However, now I'm waiting for the patch so I paused the gaming.

I would be happy with one of each of the above...[:'(]

Nah, trust me they all just interfere with playing the game. Just try waiting for the patch for one of each above. Their release versions are quite buggy, you have a work-around for most of the bugs, but the thing still blows up in your face ever so often ;)

If you're young, don't worry. If you're old :[:(]. Believe me though that one of each is way enough....[:D]
