Well, after the last CTD I realized that I had accidentally set my tab key to two different commands: afterburner and hostile lock. And then I recalled that many (though not all) CTDs came when I was leaning on the tab key while dogfighting.

I just reassigned the keys to avoid a conflict, and the past 5-6 missions have been CTD free. [:)]

Good catch. Does the game need better key-conflict detection?

Oh crap, I had that one too about a month ago and completely forgot about it because I couldn't reproduce it. I even made a copy of the errlog.txt for it. Oops. [:(]

It seems the game can't find Harmony Station, which it needs to use as the center point for a random location for another element. I wonder why yours has 3 instances of Stars.exe in the stack trace though.

I had a CTD as well running Version 4.0.2

I was actually at the main menu. I had just finished a campain mission, and then i exited to the main menu, and then decidend I might want to play a little more, so I clicked the Start Button. It was then that I CTDed.

Here is my error log.

As usual, Mehrunes is bang on target. There is a typo in a couple of the mission templates where I misspelled "Harmony Station".

I'm not sure exactly why the game is crashing out, though. It's supposed to be smart enough to recover from my stupidity in cases like this. I'll have to investigate that...

Im having a bit of a problem here too... Ive done this mission 3 times, and every time I kill my targets, use esc-1 to end mission, click on accept after the debreif screen, and then crash to desktop.

Here's the log.

Edit: I started the mission a 4th time, then did esc-1 as soon as the 60 second timer was up, seemed to bypass whatever the problem was. :)

damn

I try to find what causes the crash.. but it seems random.. the game just... dumps...

I"ll try more investigation tomorrow

i have no in way ruled out it being caused by me doing something with the mod ships lol

no

its been happening in fighter battles, actually never in a cap battle yet.... I just relized that.. its always been in battles where fighters are involved...

I"ll investigate further

I seem to only crash *after* the completion of the mission. I get the standard mission wrapup screen then Poof!

It is consistantly in the exact same spot, but NOT every mission. Replaying does not always cause the CTD.

I've had my first 4.0.2 CTD [:(]

I've been messing with the logitech profiler/SS to get my dual action pad to work the way i want for SS, but i think the drivers arent being very co-operative. Anyways, i had the profiler running in the background and i ran the first mission in Live fire, just to test out the controls (I prolly should just make a custom mission, it'll be faster to get to) and stuff wasn't working the way i wanted, i realized that 'joystick' wasnt enabled, switched it on and i got most of what i wanted, but i still had to make changes, so i aborted the mission and alt-tabbed to make changes in the profiler.
I made the changes and alt-tabbed back into the game and assigned the various joystick axis to the sticks on the controller and i strated up the first mission of live fire again and it CTD. Attached is that errlog.txt.

[EDIT:] Oh, couple quick things milo: My monitor's set at 1280x800x32 but whenever i start up SS the options screen shows 1280x960x32. Normally this isnt a problem, but recently as I've been messing with the controls, i hit the apply button to test out the controls i've changed and the game changes resolution.
Another thing: I made a custom mission where the player commands a Station4 class space fortress defending against an enemy fleet. I'm not sure if it was intentional, but I dont think the station has any repair crews.

Re: Phoenix: I can confirm that, Station4 doesn't have any repair crews.

Also its approach points are messed up. I was setting up a custom version of an "Assault on Aram Station" but scrapped it cuz of the approach points.

CMS CreateMission() request: Patrol (no target)

FATAL EXCEPTION:
It's crashing due to a lack of enemies. It shouldn't, but that's why they're called bugs... Try transferring to another squadron, or a subordinate cruiser within the Shrike squadron.

It's crashing due to a lack of enemies.
Not necessarily. The campaign engine can legally request patrol missions with no specific enemy targets identified. That just means that there are no key strategic targets assigned to the player's squadron at this moment in the campaign. In that case it is up to the mission generator to go look for some threats in the current sector.
