Ground warfare and supplylines in china

I am playing my first game (scen 15 as Japan).

My questions are:
1) is there a way to move a unit (ground) without marching? i mean, if i want to transport it shouldn't it be faster? or the march (or navy transport) are the only ways to move a unit. i don't think in RL if japan wanted to move a division between 2 cities connected by railroad would have ordered the unit to march. they would have moved it by train.

2) during ground fights, is there a way to kill the enemy unit or cause heavy losses? the ground fights seems strange. i have beaten same chinese armies 100k units in almost 10 consecutive days but everytime the loss is 200-500 casualties. and i am talking about huge armies (50k chinese against 100k japs) and with great odds on my side. but even if i am able to beat them everytime, they keep almost the same assault points and size. it seems neverending. even if i use shock attack, or bombardement first, i get always the same results.

3) how supply lines in land work? during my campaign in china i lost a city which was the sole link to the advancing units (4 hexs north attacking chinese. In theory, my units should have become out of supply within days. instead, they worked just fine.
and the same thing i noticed for the chinese troops. i conquered almost 75% of chinese bases but still i have many chinese units moving in plains even if all the bases are held by me. shouldn't they be out of supply?

1/ The computer automatically selects the fastest route for the LCU, so if there is a rail link between A and B then that unit selected will infact be moved via rail.

#3 those units off road are out of supply but will take a long time to die out.

If a LCU moves along a railyard, it actually uses the train and is between 2 and 6 times more faster than by marching on a road.

The only way to cause high casualties is to surround the enemy and have him surrender. Things work like that in WITP and real life.

Units have their own supply they carry with them, roughly enough for a month of no fighting. Units with no more supplies and no more supply line will see their squads slowly disrupted and then disappear. The only thing that fades quickly once supplies are no more coming is their combat hability.
