Does taking any base in Alaska trigger the secret code that has been aluded to in the game that makes it all but impossible for the Japanese to invade the US? Or, is it just LA, San Francisco and maybe Seattle that triggers it? And, can we finally know what the effects are (besides trying it in a game)?

There was something in the manual where it said a ground unit past a certain grid line triggers the reaction.....was it grid line 152??????

Doesnt every LCU get sped up by like 90 days or something?

180 days if I remember correctly what the Betas said.

So a strategy would be to let the Japs invade one of those bases to get the LCUs faster?

Only if he is crazy enough to do it. I would prefer beating India and China first myself. One front war and all.

Yep, it's a nasty response. Aside from speeding up all U.S. and Canadian air and ground reinforcements by 180 days, the Allies get some additional U.S. divisions that historically were not assigned to the Pacific, and they get these immediately.

On the plus side, maybe Hitler will send you a fruit basket for pulling a few divisions off of him in Europe. I think the fruit basket should count as one resource point [;)]

Basically Japan can take all / most of alaska without a problem.. But if they bother with Canada the speed up occurs.. Makes since.. Alaska at that time was a territory (like the PI) and no one knew the vast amounts of resources and oil it had - knew about the gold mostly so it wasn't a big deal if it was lost in a war... Alaska is a good place to play for the IJN as 75% of the time air power is worthless due to the weather... But only if you have some decent surface force free to support it...

If Japanese ground units move east of column 132 (inclusive), then all American and Canadian
air and ground reinforcements will have their delay reduced by 180 days. Also, several U.S.
infantry divisions will become immediately available.

If playing as the Japanese you will therefore find it near impossible to mount an effective invasion
of the American (or Canadian) West Coast. Air raids on this area, however, have no effect on this rule, nor do Japanese ships prowling east of this column.
