Is there a comtemporary board game to compare this one to? Like
La' grande gurre 1914-1918 by azure wish or paths of glory by GMT or the WWI monster variant by SPI , or fatal alliances by ADG?

I doubt there would be, however if you have played La' grande guerre?
I am very curious about it so if anyone has something to say let me hear it.
Thanks

Avalon Hill had a game called (wait for it....) Guns of August. I've got a punched copy if you want to buy it. I also have SPI's monster War in the Pacific.

Yes the Hill had thier own Guns of August but I dont think it will compare orange to orange to this game. This one will have a few more things thrown in that you cant do with a board game. Air recon, the naval war, and through the use of planning points you have to build up for the big offensives just like they did. IMO the Hill's problem with the game was that they tried to do it one level to low. If you had been able to build Armies and then filled them on a hidden strngth point track it would have been a much less counter dense game which would have helped move it along to no end. Just my two cents worth.

I have my game of Guns of August up on EBAY right now...I'm moving and simply no longer will have the space to keep my board games....

Hi dirtdog
I think that was my big complaint with AH GoA. The counters were just too dense. Many a solo game was ruined by a cat choosing to take a nap while I was away. Of course that was a complaint for all my tabletop wargames. WITP was just no way to dedicate space for the massive map.

No, there's no board game version. And in spite of the name, there's certainly no resemblance to the AH game.

I have the AH version, punched, played twice. It was a good game for its time. Can't wait to see this one.

Well CSS, one of my favorites for WWI (and a mini-monster) is "Home Before the Leaves Fall"....
As for MONSTER games, lets never forget(I know, these are not WWI-but hey?)
1. Campaign for North Africa (SPI)
2. Drang Nach Osten (GDW/GRD)
3. War in Europe (SPI/DG) 9 freakin maps, and 4080 counters....
AHHH, Love em.
