patch download disconnect with 56k modem

regard's all.

i have a problem opening the game after an apparently successfull download. when trying to start the game i get a fatal error 772 window. i have been told, that downloading and installing patch 1.20, will resolve this problem.

here is where i run into trouble. with a 56k modem, it takes 8 hours, and 50 minutes to download the 125 mb file. my internet service provider will not allow me to stay online uninterupted, for that amount of time. after 3 and 1/2 hours, i managed to get 40mb of data before being knocked off line.

so i signed back on, to download the rest, and found out, that there was no file manager, and that my only option, was to start all over again.

this is not acceptable, and it bums me out. surely you guys know how long it takes to download a 125mb file. why is there no file manager to restart the file where it left off, upon reconnection?

now i am stuck with a disk that does not work, and no way to fix it. why am i required to tie up my land line, and computer for 9+ hours, for a required patch in the first place?

i need to have the patch sent to me on a disk. i see no other way out of this catch 22. any help that anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated, as i really do not want to stop payment on my credit card.

sincerely, ralph

I'm not sure where you are or who your provider is, but talk to them. Mine will download large files and burn them for me for US$5.00. I got SPWAW 7.2 that way.

Armorthe,

You can still grab the much smaller 1.10d patch from this forum, check the 772 crash thread. That should get you running.

You can also use a download manager such as GetRight www.getright.com to let you download the patch in multiple chunks.

- Erik

Ack, someone deleted the interim update thread a bit early. The 1.20 download should be up as the master file on DR today, but I thought we would leave 1.10d up until Monday. In any case, give GetRight a try and let me know if that helps.

- Erik

Star Download ( www.stardownloader.com ) is actually abit easier to set up then GetRight. You might want to give it a try.

thanks all,

i finally got the download using getright. i now have a new set of problems. the patch did nothing to prevent the fatal error 772. i am working on a fix at a different post, and trying to download the 1.10 patch. this is supposed to fix the error.

thanks again, ralph
