Not sure it's an improvement. Slower but more stable chassis, +1 engine, -1 scanner, -0.32C/sec, a little less armor.

Looks good to me, the 2nd EMP wasn't all that useful IMO, one that you can fire continually works better wieght-wise. Heat improvement very useful. Changed

Oops, forgot that I had dropped the 2nd EMP some time ago, for an ECM and better heat dissipation. Changes listed above wre relative to previous version:

Is shield 2 a little low? All of those weapons are long range, it would suck to take a PG or LL (even a TB if the opponent manages to close) shot immediately after launching a barrage that overloaded its shield.

Only the PGs are on the limit of MR/LR. The GMEs are S/MR.

Point taken, but the shield seems low considering it is an assualt and the weapons it will be face at its attack range. It would get awful ugly if it wandered into the 5 hex range of a TB with that shield up.

Actually a lot of the assaults have 'small' shields. at the longer ranges of an energy weapon a small shield is enough to prevent a sizeable chunck of the incoming damage. One of there main uses for shields especially in assaults is to drop the to-hit percentage of the opponent enough so they can't make called shots. The armor of an assault can just suck up the damage that comes through as long as it's not concentrated in one location.

Large shields are actually one of the hardest things in the game to get 'adjusted' properly when designing. It takes ALOT of tonnage to run these things, engine size to power them and heat regs to compensate not only for thier heat but the heat generated from shield hits and still get off somekind of firepower. Truth be told there's only a tiny handful of titans that can effectiently run a 'large' shield agianst mixed (energy/non-energy weapons) incoming fire and have effective return fire. Most of the titans with large shields can only effeciently use them at full power in certian situations.

For the Armadillo, shield 2, maybe 3, is probably as big as it could handle in 'normal' SR situations where you'd only be fireing the EMP and 4 GMEs and not moving. If you chose not to fire the EMP it could obviously handle a larger shield or you can opt to move the titan. There's also internal slot limitations that come into play... sometimes what you want just will not fit.

The point of the PGs is to force the opponent to raise his shield, so that the GMEs have their range extended a bit (the ECM is weak but it may help). Against TBs (big engines), and with the extended range, it should have good to hits with the GMEs.

Also notice that the higher the shield (setting), the higher the chance of it overloading. And overloading with a TB hit is just messy, the 25 damage most of the time are preferable.

Oh, and don't forget the JPs to keep distance if need be.

Alright, I'll buy it. Especially after almost getting taken apart by AI running a similiar combo on the Android Rebellion campaign [;)]
