Illegible fonts/dark background to dark font

Hello everyone, my question relates to the difficulty I have reading the fonts during gameplay![&:]My monitor is not quite an antique (Philips 105S) and is set to 1024/768, though it makes no diff at lesser res. [&o] Any ideas?[;)]
