I know how to raise railroad embankments or bocage to a 5 elevation, but how could I do a 1 elevation for stone walls, to make it about 3-feet tall?

No go Steve![X(] Did you check my Word document already (in my signature below)?
SPWAW only knows about height alterations of 5! If you see other values like 11 or 12 and something then these are additional terrain codes used to distinguish similar terrain types! check my docs about that![X(]
Beside that, height is also abstractly modelled by S8 byte 6 and 8 (rather 8 I think). Want to model anything particular Steve?[&:]

Found this in the game manual:
Stone Wall: Stone walls are assumed to be between 3 and 6 feet tall and will cause strangelooking blind spots. ...
Just as I suspected, (wall) feature height is abstractly modelled by S8 Bytes 6 and 8.[:D]
Note: This similarily counts for the buildings in SPWAW! Actually there´s no building height, as always the underlying terrain height determines the height of all of the hex. In fact you can make height =0 buildings (assuming base terrain height is at 0) or 10 (on a level 1 hill) ect. That means these buldings still have full line of sight blocking and cover/conceamment modifiers (due to S8 Byte 6+8 setting). A unit in the same hex then can be assumed to be loacated in the floor or 1st level. I think this is the system used for the SP2WW2 game.
So if in the editor you place some building, then in fact the chosen hex is just raised by a certain amount and building attributes are added. Freds Editor allows to seperate the components and this enables map designers to make buildings with height=0 or place building icons on the map with a particular height, but leave away the (wood or stone) building attributes! (Note: works only if non icon layer 5 is used and shadow casting routine not needed)
I used these features for a scenario where I needed some units to be on the upper building level (or roof top) like snipers or FO and others on floor level. Thus buildings were either set at height 0 or +5 to +10 (or higher) accordingly. Off course we´re stuck with a single level per hex (no basement + multi story levels) and only Freds Editor allows us to make a hex with a particular height.

Steve, this
can be done, and quite easily. Just use the 'add high grass' (snow bank, sand dune) button on the hexes first and then place your wall. The hex will now show 'height 1, stone wall'.

Nah...Jim..the "1" height is a terrain flag only and NOT height! ...unless "imagination" is what counts only off course.[;)] I´ll see what terrain in fact will be created when "high grass" and "stone wall" is combined in a single hex.
Did you know, high grass only works right on level 0 terrain? Place some high grass on level 10 and higher hills and you won´t see the "1 meter" added! It´s a simple bug![X(] ..the real problem with this is, that "high grass" placed on hills, just adds to the LOS obstruction in the hex! Just check it out! You see through fewer high grass hexes on hills than you do on level 0 (or 1 if you like) terrain.

Figured something very interesting out![X(] Walls worked somewhat differently in older SPWAW versions, where they caused these sort of blind spots! Didn´t even noticed that it changed at a certain time...[:D]

Walls and High Grass combined work more like 2m high stone walls, but if you want that kind of effect then it´s what you can do without even starting Freds Editor.[8D]
