i keep having this problem with my computer. i have a P4 1.4 gig chip 512 memory. it seems every time i start any game (UV/WITP/HTTR etc), after a few minutes the fan in the computer starts up (loud at times) and it seems to slow the system down. i'm not sure if i need to change any settings, or if its a hardware problem. i'm at a total loss, and at times it becomes a severe problem.
just wondering if this problem has happened to anyone or have any experiences with this type of problem?
any help or ideas is truly appreciated.
thanks all

Feels like your system is overheating. I'm not an intel chip expert but doesn't it have an in-built system that throttles the cpu when it overheats. And your fan is probably temperature controlled so...
You could get a program like 'motherboard monitor' to check the temps. And if they are high improve air circulation inside the case and perhaps get a better cpu cooler.

Yep sounds like a overheating problem.

You might also try adding a fan to the motherboard. They have these fans on cards that you can put into your system that really puts out the air flow. Alternately (my favorite trick) is to put the computer near the floor vent for my AC. This keeps cool air flowing into the case thus keeping the temp down. Some Techs will tell you that that can cause problems with moisture, but I've been doing this for years and never had a problem.

You might also want to check if your CPU fan is appropiate for the CPU unit you have. Another thing to check is the cooling paste, but you might want to have that been done by somebody that knows what to do there.
Another thing for heating problem. Clean the machine

. Dust is a great factor when it comes to overheating.
