what gives with the fighters?

I am frustrated with the fighter ai. I set up multiple assault packages, the ships take off (allright, cool, this will be great!!),they fly around a bit, and then about half the packages come back to the carrier without fulfilling the mission. The other half may do the mission, but only if i give them a separate 'engage' order. Are half of my fighter squadrons staffed by cowardly pilots, or is there something amiss with the fighter ai/packaging process?

post the mission. Perhaps the wrong commands ar ebeing used. Like for aship attacks the 'Strike' order has to be used.

did you set up your nav points with the right commands?

hmm, that's odd, when i select 'strike' from the flight menu for a fighter package, it does not offer any ships as a viable target. however, when i select 'assault' (which is what i normally do in game) it provides me with viable capital ship targets. are you saying that i need to give the fighter package a 'strike' command after launching them from the carrier?
I would note that page 20 of the manual clearly identifies the 'Assault' command as appropriate for "Spaceborne fighter strike against enemy starships"...

ok, i think that what was happening in the case of the cowardly pilots is that the other ships in the fleet have already destroyed the package target, so they have no mission. at least that is what i think is going on.
however, still at a loss for why fighters crash. i try to keep my carrier still and flat, but they still crash. its funny, because i searched this forum for this topic and i actually found the last time i asked this question from about a month ago when the game first came out. i know i have read other posts about this topic back then...any ideas what i am doing wrong (i am assuming it is user error since there isn't a huge volume of posting on this topic). help is much appreciated
p.s. patched to version 4.2.0 (second patch). i noticed in the readme that it intended to fix fighter RTB ai....apparently not well enough.

I'm having the same issue with fighters crashing into the CV when they return. Last night I lost about a third of the fighters when they came back to dock. I've tried several orientations and velocities of the CV but they don't seem to help. Last not I didn't move the CV at all and stayed facing north but it didn't help.
Also, with regards to planet op's. It would be nice if we didn't break orbit right on top of the AAA's and SAM's. I'd like to drop in about 100 km out and fly in on the "deck". Anyone know how to control this? I've tried moving the 1st planet-side nav point out but it doesn't seem to effect where you drop in.

As there has been no response to this for a couple of days, I am assuming there is no solution to the crashing fighter dilemma. As it makes me quite irritated to lose fighters permanently in a dynamic campaign for no particular reason, looks like starshatter goes back on the shelf until patch 3. Please make it golden, because I can already see this bug mentioned in a written review, and I want starshatter and everyone involved to succeed.
Thanks.

Think you'll find most of the Matrix folks are at some kind of a trade show right now.
