Auto-Convoys

The WITP Manual says that only one TF per turn will be created (if needed). Then it says that only one Auto-Convoy TF will be in play at any given time.

Can a player subsequently switch the first Auto-Convoy TF to manual control, thereby allowing the AI to possibly create another Auto-Convoy TF on a subsequent turn?

Yep, you can take them over if you want. On the TF screen, click "automatic convoy" and switch to human control.

Question: why would you want to do this?

The rules manual says that only one Auto-Convoy can be in play at a given time. Therefore, if I have two bases needing supplies on the auto convoy system, I want to ensure that no computer-controlled auto convoys are on the map during the orders execution phase. That way, any bases needing supplies will get theirs without my having to scroll every base to monitor their status every turn.

Also, how many AKs are enough in San Francisco for the auto convoy system?

I probably have 40 AK's and another 20 TK's in Frisco,and a larger number in Karachi..

So do y'all have like nine or ten convoys from SF running around at any given time supplying bases?

Yes you do, I put all of Canada, Alaska, Aleutians, all the itty-bitty SOPAC rear (and I mean rear) bases on auto supply. Later on, once I've got the Gilberts, I'll start putting some of the obscure Aussie and NZ bases on auto as well.

Cheers,

John.

I may be wrong.. but that sounds screwy.. the part about "one" auto convoy at a time.. maybe it means per base????

So far as I can tell in my games, it means 1 per turn. So, what you can do is run a couple of 1 day turns to get the convoys loaded up and moving. Then go to 2 or 3 day turns or whatever your preference is.

Right now I have at least 10 auto convoys moving around the map on any given day. And it's one per turn per port. Since the Allies have 2 ports for the auto convoy system, they can make 2 convoys per turn.

I do not trust the auto convoy system after it created jap convoys against my orders and sent them to front line bases out of the auto convoy loop? so no more auto convoy, or at least until I am shown it will work and not be a cluster

I think its one TF/turn.
Btw. the AC-AI doesnt seem to tackle TKs very well, assigns too many to each TF, so you are better off just assigning AKs to the AC-pool.

I set up Anchorage as an auto convoy base and promptly received two task forces created turn about for the same base....D O H
Its probably best set up for bases you could forget about especially in the rear areas and just create 100 AK tfs for places like Pearl etc
