Adding news planes ?

Ok I'm a luftwaffe fan and I'm currently in the process of adding Bf-109 G-2 into a scenario database. So far so good; I took the plane data from Bombing the Reich database. How do I add a picture to my plane so that when I click on a squadron on the map I can see a picture of G-2.

Thanks for your help!

Peter Fisla,

To add aircraft art you need to modify the following files located in the art folder:

Allied: A_planeside, Aptop & Aptop_alpha
Japanese: J_planeside, Jptop & Jptop_alpha

You will notice that the bitmap and slot numbers are the same.

This looks like the thread for this question.

I am interested in placing some late war aircraft into a scenario/database. I am not interested in
researching and producing anything outside of when it would have been produced historically(theoretically). I have researched the stats for these aircraft, but have no clue how to implement them.
It looks like Japanese aircraft need an 'Engine' device included in their equipment which
the allied aircraft are not required to include. Do my new Japanese aircraft need to be built in a factory('Location'), while the Allied aircraft just need to have a build rate set as they will just be built...period?

I also assume that you must edit an obsolete aircraft 'Upgrade' field to contain your new design.
Can this upgrade be done by Aircraft or Air Groups???

I have been reading any related upgrade threads but have not found any detailed info so far(especially for both Axis and Allies). Perhaps I have missed something.

If you are a Witp aircraft expert, especially if you are expert in upgrading both Axis and Allies aircraft, please share your knowledge.
Thanks in advance.[&o]

rhohltjr,

Using the database editor (read the manual for slot restrictions, etc. . .) do the following:

1) Create all new devices needed by the new plane.

2) For Japanese aircraft make sure the engine is being produced. See location Nagoya base as an example of how factories are listed.

3) Create the aircraft.

4) Find aircraft that have deadend upgrades (they upgrade to themselves) and change the, to the new aircraft.

5) Create new air groups that use this new aircraft (if needed).

What happens if you create a new plane without an engine? Will it be produced like an allied plane and not require an engine?

Good question[&:]. Perhaps the Japanese planes require engines in order to be produced?
That can only be answered by the guys that wrote the code. Perhaps the beta testers
tried to build planes without the engines. Wonder if any had any luck?

I understand why Japanese aircraft designs have engines in their designs while Allied
aircraft don't. That is to try and impose a production restriction which would have
been brought about by engine factories in Japan being skwashed periodically.

i think this does not have influence... in the new patch the tabby is in the game, but has no engines :)

also, in a scenario i created myself, a new plane had no engines. Cause i had a test unit of these planes i saw they fighted and flew missions... so it is just a production thing - and an unfair advantage for the japanese side (cause you do not consumpt resources for engines

I don't think that would be an advantage for the japanese side as much as it is apparently just excess code added for "fluff". Maybe it was intended to add an extra step/resource drain for the japanese player
but along the way was made obsolete (the japanese airplane engine code) and never removed??? Hmmm.
Again, the only people that can really answer this are the devs. We can only speculate.

rhohltjr,

Japan having aircraft engine factories also gives the allies someting else to bomb with their B-29's [:D]

Did all of that tanjman. Did not realize just how tight the database is for Allied Carrier capable aircraft
slots 77 - 101. All slots are already filled. I wonder if it is possible to edit the save games with either
the Scenario editor or the Database editor? Don't think it possible to play the Dec41 - Mar46 scenarios
plus add late war aircraft to database[:(]. Of course, adding late war aircraft is not a problem for the
Japanese side since there are still some slots available .

*BOTH*

The aircraft upgrade field is the *normal* path

The groups upgrade field lets you override the *normal* path and give the group itself a special path.

rhohltjr,

If you're doing a late war scenario you could always replace the Sea Gladiator, F2A, F4F-3, SB2U and the TBD with other aircraft types.

BTW the TBM-3d Avenger slot 102 is carrier capable as well.

Hmmm. Was unsure about the Sea Gladiator since I didn't know if it had been phased out entirely by 1945. I did replace the F2A, F4F-3, SB2U and P-26 in the 1945-46 scenario as a test.

I hope the Artsy guys(Subchaser) will (hurry and)do their magic for the P80, F8F, F7F, Kikka, G8N1 and Ki-83. My late war aircraft would (I think) work database wise but seeing a 594mph P-26 flying circles around the others would detract from my ...game.

thanks,[8D]

Everyone, anyone. I sent Spooky a .xls spreadsheet with some late war airplane stats.
Please download and use if you like. [:D]
