Some advice for new players

Greetings all. I have noticed a lot of new players posting here. That is great. There are a few old vets posting but most are involved with WITP. Still, I check this board because UV is still a great game and I want to see it supported.

Keep the questions coming.

However, the best advice I can give you all is to forgo playing the AI (except for practice) and start playing human opponents. Find another new to middle level player and go at it. I see that many are playing AI only and by the questions being asked can see that many are developing bad habits. Remember, that the AI is extremely limited and will only give you a so-so battle. The habits and tactics of the AI are predictable and you will soon fall into a rut.

If you are not doing so, start playing humans. You will make some great friends and find that this game will take you to a whole different level.

I am still playing a campaign with my friend Stefan that has been going on for almost two years. We started up right after the game was introduced and have been through most all of the patches. It is slow but sure and we have both learnt tons of stuff since starting.

I completely agree with you here.

The forum traffic seemed to slow quite a bit when Matrix opened their new off-ramp (WitP), but it's clear that many guys are still picking up the game and need to feel that someone can share the same enthusiasm others have felt since the game appeared. I'd like to underline your recommendation to others to take on human opponents, and just for the reasons you mentioned: it's more challenging and also a good way to connect with people everywhere who have a shared interest in the game and in history.

I've got six uv games going strong and am craving even more. (Yes I am an obsessional maniac...but a friendly one[:)]).

Another point is that WitP will be moving through several patch cycles that will no doubt require restarting games in progress, so playing it email should probably wait a bit, in my view. And that leaves uv of course.

Way cool.
