repair ship when to go back to Pearl?

I know that this has been mentioned before but what is a good rule of thumb for sending a ship back to Pearl? 25 or more systems damage I know if there is fire or floatation problems they should go back. How quickly will Noumea handle a ship with 25 sys. damage?

Noumea at level 9 will have a minesweep/sub/DD/AK/AP with 25 sys in tip top shape in a month or faster. A carrier or BB with 25 sys is gonna take 5-6 months to get back to around 10 - from there it gets better a bit faster. Unless you really really need it send it back.

I usually send anything over 10 sys back to Pearl unless it is needed in theatre really bad.

Fires should be extended and floodings should be repaired before sending your ship back home .
Make sure no weapon system is damaged or it become permanently disabled if you send you ship back - known Bug .
Destroyers may stay in theater with 30+ sys damage without hampering Task force speed but if upgrades are available for Flak and ASW-weapons send them back earlier or if you have better DD waiting for release .
Capital ships should not stay with 20+ sys damage unless they are badly needed (CV types + maybe BB)

I didn't think you send anything back in the senarios, only the campaign game. 80 SYS damage will take 320 days to repair plus the 19 days it takes to get back to PH. Then another 19 days to get from PH to Nouema.

The important thing to remember is that you are only allows a certain total number of shipping points in theater at any one time. Depends on the scenario and the % set in the options menu, but if your likelyhood of release reads "low" that means that you are saturated with ships and will not get more until the level raised to "moderate" or "high"
Leaving ships in port to repair works fine for DDs and small ships, but you may decide to send them back instead to both raise you ship release level and for the upgrades if they are Allied. A lot depends on how much you need them. To test this out just wait until you are at a "low" release level and then send about ten ships or so home. Your level should go up to "medium". This happens a lot after a major battle when you send a lot of cripples home.
If you are the Allied player and not in a critical situation, you should start to rotate your DDs and treaty CAs home. Those that start the game in theater have pitiful AA values and need to be upgraded. One trip home for a CA, makes a big difference.
If you have a surplus of a certain type such as DMs, MLs, AKs, Tks, then cull the crop and send them home. Look for those that have not already upgraded their AA.
Only ship I never send home is Japanese tankers, they are just to dang important. I use em until they sink.

This is good advice. Theater management is essential to maintain the force balance you need, or will need. For the Allies the issue is much less agonizing than for the Empire. The anti-aircraft upgrades are what you're really after. For the Japs it requires planning right from the start.
Of course everything depends on what ship availibility setting you've chosen. A lot of players consider Allied 100% Japanese 140% an equitable arrangement, at least in email matches. If you're playing the AI then you might try putting the IJN at 200% for a bigger challenge. You'll most probably still win, and have the extra fun of nailing a total parade of enemy vessels in the bargain. [8D]
I'm playing the Japanese in a great #17 email game with 80% availability for both sides. Now that is a hard row to hoe. It really magnifies the importance of every ship, and I hope my opponent has bitten his nails as far down as I have.

I was wondering if others can confirm these numbers for me please. I'm running at the historical level both Allies and IJN have ship commitments of 100%
DD: ETA at Pearl in days = SYS Damage + 19
CA/CL: ETA at Pearl in days = 2 x SYS Damage + 19
CVs (I think BBs also): ETA at Pearl in days =3 x SYS Damage + 19
If others who are running at ship commitments different that 100% let me know some of their values when they send ships back to pearl maybe I can come up with the formulas for these. If they differ I don't know.
I also was using the Editor to simulate damage ships and see how long it takes them to repair but every time I start the scenario by ships are in perfect health. Even though the editor does allow you to enter damage to the ships. Does anyone know how I can start a scenario with a damaged ship.

Hi ago,
I'm not certain about exact formulas regarding ship arrivals from Noumea to PH. For me the most important thing is when they will come back in theater. This is governed by what forces are available at Pearl (or Tokyo for the Japs) as well as ship commitment level. Unless it's a CV or possibly a battleship, I really don't worry about its return since there are plenty more ships in the pipeline - at least for the Allies. Capital ships for example will usually wait for at least 4 DDs to accompany them. I've never seen the AI send out DDs by themselves.
As for repair in port, you have little control which vessels receive attention from the dockyards. This question has been asked many times and the answer is always that repair priority is randomized. Obviously larger ports fix ships faster, and bigger ships take longer to reduce sys damage.
Sadly I have no help for you about the uv editor. I've repeatedly read about its flaws and have studiously avoided it. WitP's editor on the other hand is fully equipped and some enterprising players have already mastered it. I'm sure we'll see much more in the future. Good luck.
