Is there a universal maximum range for attacking ships at sea ?
In UV it was something like 300 miles (10 hexes), regarless of aircraft range.

I take it you're asking about a/c, yes?
I've seen some very long range attacks (damnable Bettys...), which I believe has been the max range for the attack a/c as listed on their detail screens.

where you found those numbers ?
I encountered several long air raids in UV , more then 10 hexes...they are of course rare...

There was indeed 10 HEX limit in UV (it was not in manual - but developers confirmed this). The land based bombers would not attack enemy TFs at ope sea if further than that.
In WItP, as Raymond says ("Mr. Frag"), there is no such limit at all - the land based aircrfat will attack any TF regardless of distance if it is spotted...

I was surprised to see Bettys raiding in from Truk in my ops at the 'canal.
I thought that was a little out of thier range.

So Bettys can attack a moving TF from 900 miles away ? [X(]
Are the Emilys/Mavises at least less efficient at spotting than they are in UV ?

According to WitP BETA testers the "Naval Search" was changed and the distance you set as "MAX Range" plays
_HUGE_ role now.
In other words you yourself (as commander) dictate how far your search will go and, thus, you select area covered and number of planes used...

Lets not get carried away ...
It makes a *difference*.
That is not the same as saying it plays a _HUGE_ role [;)]

It's just a logical progression. The smaller the area you are searching = the more planes doing the search = more found ships.
Searching out to only 4 hexes instead of 10 could be considered a huge difference. You are just about guaranteed to spot the TF. Just as they drop anchor and train guns out over your base [:D]

I still think it is
_HUGE_ because we can now control how far our search aircraft go (better to say how far not to go)... [;)]
BTW, I will conduct tests as soon as small scenario bug is fixed.

Yes, its annoying.....to the Japanese player. (they attack with bombs, score nothing and wrack up huge fatigue ratings)
Yes, patrol planes are less effective the farther the distance (and closer to their maximum range)
