I have been put in command of the newly formed X SS Panzer Group. We are to set up a defend position west of Krakow.

9/5/39 our lines have been set up and ready for the enemy. Visibility is good and we can see as far away as 3000 yds. Our big guns should shred there lines as they attack. There bombardment started at 1200 hours. So far only 100mm have fallen mostly on empty ground.

I have been given command of a very strong Panzer group:

2 sec mobile recon cars
1 sec 231 rad 6 recon
1 sec PZII recon
3 Platoons of SS mech infantry w/ATR and 50mm motors.
2 sec heavy MMG
3 sec 81 mm Motors
3 sec 150 sigs
1 sec 37mm ATG
1 sec 88mm ATG
3 sec 37mm AA
1 sec PZII in support will upgrade to Stugs when available
2 sec PVC 75mm gun for support
2 fo

My tank force is very well set up too.
2 sec 231 rad 8 Recon
2 Platoons PZII
2 Platoons PZIII
2 sec PZ 221 will upgrade to TD later on.

My force is rounded out with 2 Platoons of Engineers with med trucks for transport.

A command car and 2 sec 231 rad 6 for HQ support. We are dug in and anxiously waiting for the first sight of the enemy.

X SS Panzer Group: West of Krakow 1215 Hours 9/5/39

Not much to report so far. There 100MM guns continue to bombard us. There has now been some 81 MM Mortars starting to open up on us. Not much damage so far except for the men digging there fox holes deeper, all of a sudden.

There has been some probing on all fronts. Mostly scouts and troopers on horseback. Have seen several armored cars which our big guns dispatched rather easily. Couple of medium tanks have been dealt with in the same manner.

The big push looks to be in the center and slightly north of there. I have no doubt we will be able to hold.

I am amazed at how soon the Polish have given up the Battle. It was a decisive victory for us. Over a thousand of there men were killed or wounded. They lost 7 APC and 9 tanks. Also managed to knock out a couple of there 81 mortars. Found there artty dump near the end with our 150s.

We have been ordered to the rear for refitting and any upgrades we can find. It will be good to have some time off. The men did very well in ther first battle. It will give us some time to work on our stratagy for the next fight we are in. I am sure we will still be fighting the Poles. I dont see how this war can go on much longer. Not if this is what we can expect from the enemy.

I have sent you my recommendations for promotion. I hope you act on them before we go back into battle.
