May seem like a small thing but when you're a newb trying to learn as intricate game as this, every little bug is bad.
When I'm running through lesson 2 of the tutorial and I have to move my wheeled artillery while in extended movement mode, it tells me in the player's guyide that wheeled artillery can't move adjacent to enemy lines or over the front, but I definitely could and did. Can they or can't they?

Wonderful game guys- It is a little daunting but it's so WOW that I just can't wait to get better and play a real game. Not all games have to be RTS or FPS! Way to go!

I'm in the same spot. The part where it says that extended movement for some artillery pieces will actually reduce your movement in some cases.

Some units move by horse or by foot. If you use extended mode, effectively the units are now moving by truck.
It means that along roads they will move further but off-road they cannot move as far. That’s what it means by “less movement”
Also, if such a unit is moving to the front, it is true they will not move adjacent to enemy units or across the front line. It would be too dangerous to do so!.
But once you have completed the tutorial, and start the full game, you can test this yourself.

very strange- I did move them next to enemy units tho.
another thing i've come across is that when i'm using the combat advisor, it gives such and such odds for certain battles, but when i set up the exact units it says i need to get to those odds, my odds wind up being much lower. i went from a 10-1+ to a 5-1 and could not get any higher no matter what i did. any idea on that?

(ya know I did wonder if the game was updated or something via the patches (im totally patched) but maybe the players guide wasnt, but then i thought well if theyre updating the dll's and executables why wouldnt they update the manual via the patch too?)

You want to attack a hex from as many sides as possible to achieve the most number of shifts
Now, look at one of your attacking stacks and count the number of steps. Now take ALL enemy units that are adjacent to that stack ( except the actual defenders) and count the number of enemy steps. You need to have the same or greater to achieve a shift from that hex side.
A sneaky way to achieve the required no. of steps, is to take a distant unit, use extended movement, and place him onto the attacking stack. He cannot be used in combat because you used extended movement but his step are counted in the above calculation
Each unit has different movement capability. You needed to move Unit “A” to hex “1” and unit “B” to hex “2” and unit “C” to hex “3”.
The combat advisor does not tell you exactly where to move each unit ( but it will do so in the upcoming BIN).
The other point is that if the Combat Advisor might say “6-1”. But with experience and you move units carefully as above, you can achieve higher odds
