CV will not launch AIr

Guys am I correct that if a CV has sys. dameage in excess of 20 and some weapons damage it may not be able to launch planes? I had this case with Saratoga in mid 43 . I kept it in action and spelled by times in Nuemea but evertime I sent it out it would never launch planes. I finally just sent it back to Pearl since it appeared to be not doing me any good. As I said it had about 23 sys damage and some weapons were out from small bomb damage.

The rule is SYS + FLT damage > 50 to have no more air missions launched. But it is also possible that your CV has too much planes aboard, if planes from anotehr damaged CV fly in and then you dock somewhere where losses were replaced in the Saratoga's air units (planes flying from another CV will never rise the number of planes to a point where no more flying is possible, but replacements may do that).
In some special situations, I had a CV with 28 SYS still attacking the IJN (it was the last CV available on the whole map for both sides..) and it launches missions as if it was intact (except the reduced speed).

How do I protect from "oversize air groups" I do not recall recieving any planes at Sea from damaged sister ships. Certainly I was in port and assume that only loses would be replaced after a mission. Is there a manual way to check if a carrrier is oversized as far as Air group in such a manner as to not let it launch??????????

If the Sara has her normal air groups and nothing else, then she should be able to fly planes with only 20 sys damage. Damaged guns and such have no impact. Combined flotations and sys over 50 will prevent air operations. Remember the higher the sys damage, the more planes that will crash due to operational reasons.
If I am not severely threatened, I will send American carriers home. Most will get a great AA upgrade for the effort. Japanese carriers never go home with less than 35 sys damage. You might never get them back. Sit them in a level 9 port for two or three months and the sys damage will come down a bit.

I still can not figure why I had a Saratoga that would not launch planes I had it in a TF with Essex. After I sent Sara home to Pearl I had Essex out on next patrol and it did every thing by way of air ops. Could my problem be in any way related to OP points? Again it had only 23 sys damage and some AAA weapons system. How can I find what the orginal air capacity of each ship is? Then I suppose we should check before each mission that they do not exceed that max. Is there such a list for all CVs CVEs and CVLs???????????

No these damage don't affect the OP. The aircraft capacity is showed in the CV screen on the bottom right side.

Maybe the Sara airgroups were sent to training or 100% naval search / ASW ?
Or lack of pilots ?

How do I check for lack of pilots?

You can check it out in the squadron screen by comparing the number of pilots ready for action and the number of aircraft available. If the number of planes exceeds the current number of pilots, the exceeding aircraft will be considered as being in repaired although they are not damaged at all;they are just waiting for new pilots to come.
Have you check the morale and fatigue level for these squadrons?Just a thought...

If your carriers combined total of aircraft exceeds more than 10% over her full
compliment I beleive she will not launch aircraft.
