Can Japan take USA out?

this is my counterpoint to the "Can Germany take Russia out?" thread. All you European-centric WWII players better get ready for some Pacific island hopping campaigns...

Probably shouldn't be able to. I don't think there was any realistic chance of Japan taking out the US. The best they could hope for is to cause enough damage to US military might that they eventually would agree to a truce.

How likely that would have been politically is another, and much more unpleasant arguement.

So the question more likely should be, can Japan stalemate the US long enough to achieve some form of victory?

Since Japan's victory is completely dependent on how the Germans do, it will be in the Japanese best interests to tie up as many US forces possible....

Japan can win in a cooperative game with germany, but not "take out" the us.. victory levels are based on production levels in the latter years .
