Good work, good game.

I am completely new in this forum, and new to this game, having not heard of it 3 days ago.

However, I have since then downloaded the Demo, and purchased the game as well, and I must say I enjoy this game very much. That it was nearly the work of but one man is impressive as well, in this age of large multi-million dollar projects (which played no small role in my motivation to purchase it, quite frankly).

Right now I'm in operation highland, having defeated the separatist fleet, and currently fighting the hegemony forges, switching between fighter command and destroyer command.

I must say that the final few missions against the Goliath carrier group were very, very fun. Started off as a simple intercept mission, and fighters and capital ships kept popping up left and right, leading to a truly epic battle. I flew a few more mission, and in the end I took out the Goliath aboard the Shadow. After about 2 fighter strikes and 1 destroyer attacks with the Goliath fleeing, I came up to the Goliath and she quantumed away... I decided to sent my ships to different system, and got lucky and jumped right in front of the Goliath. Very nice battle. :)

Incidentally, does anyone have any tips on keeping Frigates alive in battles? They are rather flimsy, after all.

Thank you.

I guess I will. :)

Here's another question though:

When in command of a destroyer or cruiser group, is it possible for me to request fighter support from a carrier group? It does seem rather dangerous to cruise around a sector without any air cover, after all. :)

Thank you.

You can't specifically tell a carrier to send fighters to you but if there are fighters out there you can tell them to cover you if you radio them.

When I use frigates ideally I send them off on their own to engage enemy fighter flights in the area, cause they are rather good at taking down fighters. If Im engaging a DD squadron with them I use the "bracket" command I think it is in the hopes they can stay out away from the badguys main guns, and try and arrange their nav points so they get there AFTER the destroyers in the hopes they get targeted last. Against cruisers or carriers I send them in first as a distraction, if I think the prize is worth losing a couple frigates.

frigates are ideal for supressing fighters. I use them as escorts and send them out to intercept incoming fighters since capitol ships are rather poorly suited to handle incoming fighters. When I encounter a heavy capitol ship engagment I typically get them out of the area via Q-jump. They're not of much use at that pint.

I'm not sure about requesting fighter support from a carrier when you're commanding a capitol ship. You might try ctrl-s and see if your carrier responds.
