As the Japanese, i would say at least several hours... maybe 8 to 10 or more.

Helps if you make a checklist of what goes where, what changes u make to production, etc... so that next games r faster to setup.

If you keep same strategy from game to game, u can use a ''generic'' saved game and modify it a bit... but anyway, its still a VERY BIG PROCESS!

First SERIOUS time? About 30 hours. Filled a legal pad with notes. Filled another for Lemurs scen26.

Now about 6 hours to set up, but after a few times you pretty much know where everything is and where it will go.

Spent another 30 hours on Lemurs new version (still in BETA mode, so do not go looking for it).

But that would only be for the first turn. Once things are in motion, a routine turn can be done in half an hour. Then, when the initial operations are winding up and it's time for the next phase, count on some longer turns. Planning and organizing operations are what take time.... well, that and reacting to your opponent's moves, but we hope not to have to do that so much, don't we?[;)]

Normal turns where you are just adjusting some elements are pretty quick. As long as you remember your plans it is just a matter of adjusting things as the plan unfolds.

Now if you are playing multiple games, things get a bit more complex as you might not be running the same plans and have to remember what you were doing.

I started out taking 5-6 hours, now I'm down to 1-3 hours depending on how involved the turn is. The initial week of the game is pretty time consuming.

The first turn takes an _enormous_ amount of time.

Last night I did about 6 turns in two or two and a half hours, though (no major changes in strategic direction, just make sure the reinforcements are getting forwarded to the front and an occasional rotation of air units from Port Moresby due to malaria and Japanese Aircraft taking their toll.

I've been playing japan only so I have no idea for the allies.. But turn 1 for me is roughly 4 hours - now that I know exactly what to send where and what industry to change/expand and such.. Its more clicking than anything now..

An average turn for me is roughly 1 hour to do as japan.. Could probably be faster, but I'm anal and like to check everything to make sure nothing screws up.. I will run the mouse over every TF at sea as well as check on repairs and such of important ships.
