Playing Japanese. I have Lunga and Tulagi. There are probably about 10 USN subs (more or less) causing mischief with my supplies, hanging out right near my bases. I have had very little luck killing them (got 2 so far).
Can I mine the entrances to the slot and potentially keep subs potentially nail ones that attempt to enter?
Do subs hit mines?

In thousands of turns both against the AI and human opponents, I have never seen a sub hit a mine. I do recall that some players have seen it however, so it is apparently not impossible, just extremely unlikely. Your best bet to kill them is to use aggressive ASW sweeps with destroyers and patrolling aircraft. And for the Japanese this means a heavy commitment to the task. One or two destroyers will not do; 20-25 is more like an effective ratio. Same goes with aircraft - use everything you can spare.

Definately increase your asw air patrols to detect them
and that will give your DD's a better chance to sink them
every time your airpower attacks a sub the sub loses fuel and that
also will help keep them at bay somewhat and you will thin them out.
