Are there any WitP editors in work perhaps?

Hi all,

Are there any WitP editors in work perhaps?

Since Michael McFarland created most excellent "WitPLoad" with ability to Import/Export data I was wondering if someone, perhaps, wanted to do editor that would use it abilities...

Anyways... I will be creating Excel (XLS) editor for WitP that would accompany the "WitP Load" by Michael McFarland...

Here is how I conceived it:

#1
"WitP Load" extracts WitP data files and puts it into ordinary CSV files.

#2
Data from those CSV files is manually copied&pasted into my XLS.

#3
XLS allows us various nice things for data manipulation (sorting and other stuff).

#4
When done data is copied&pasted back into CVS files.

#5
After that "WitP Load" is used to import data back into WitP data files.

P.S.
I had similar method for "Falcon 4" years ago but there I wrote my own import/export routine inside XLS using VBA.

Why would anyone want to create another editor when we have one that works?

To speed up the editing process.

To do some sanity checks on the data entered.[:)]

Hi all,

Try creating empty scenario with original WitP editor... [:(]

"Kid" must have clicked himself to death for his Scen#01 "Tutorial" because he had to manually select every unwanted location and unit to 9999 delay and 0 for location... it must have been 1000's of mouse clicks...

Thankfully for us after WitP release Michael McFarland wrote "WitP Load" and "Arkady" created his own utility for empty scenarios creation (his program automatically puts 9999 delay and 0 for every location and unit)!

I use the same method but with Access for the work and with CSVED to convert in CVS.

The current editor is good, but only if you want to make small, changes, or edit values (a la Lemurs historical scenario 15). If you want to basically create an entirely new scenario, such as my War Plan Orange, it is extremly hard and cumbersome, and often times will crash the game for no reason.

Don't think the current editor would "crash the game", more likely problems with the database you've edited. As mentioned by michaelm, a database sanity checker would be very useful.

Well, I took my database stuff, and vie michaels witpload stuck them in to a stock DB, and it worked fine, so I dunno. At least its working now, thats all I care.
