Ron,
In 3.1 BETA both SOPAC and Southwest Pac arrive as reinforcments. Should arrive about 75 days out from game start. Look in your ground unit arrivals screen.
Told you he made alot of changes. Kind of levels the playing field a little.
No more going on the early offensive as the Allies. I believe he also delayed the arrival of the 2nd Marine Div or made it way understrength.

I am tempted to split 2nd marines which would be more correct. However, the base 1/3rd of the division occupied is not on the map. Thus, i meditated, sacrificed 2 virgins, consulted the oracle at Delphi,
and then said 'aw, screw it, bring them in late.'
Plus, if i split them i see errors like never being able to reform the division.
It was really March before SWPAC got organized and SOPAC was a bit later. It does limit building up the South Pacific early.
Against arguments that it leaves the South Pacific open to Japan, i say, sure it does. Of course Japan has only the South Seas Force to take and hold everything unless he pulls troops from other ops.
I think some Allied players are panicking a bit too much in some AARs. Sure, the Japanese are ahead of schedule but at what cost? And how overextended? I am playing 2 Pbem's at the moment both as Japan and I don't really have enough forces to hold the islands Japan starts with. I wish Japan had built up fewer bases in the Marshalls; I just do not have the forces to garrison all of them. There is no where near enough air power on Kwaj to pound an allied landing on one of the empty bases before the allies bring in fighters. What does Japan do?
Many people think i am making a Japanese fan boy scenario; i do not think so. I am just trying to fix a few flaws.

Have you considered just putting the 2nd marines as one division but at 2 /3rds strength or whatever,
... in his book "No Bended Knee" the divisions operations officer states that one of the 2nd's Regiments was at Cardre status untill after Pearl Harbour and was recuited up to strength 1942.
cheers

Looked for it, guess I missed it. I suspected Mike would have corrected the SOPAC location and arrival error. Thanks.

Hipper,
Yes, i have thought of the 2/3rds route. The problem i have is that 1 rgmt was in Iceland, 1 rgmt was in French Polynesia which is not onour map. My feeling is that if it is offmap we leave it historical, so the division should just be 1 rgmt, reinforced.
The regiment that stayed in San Diego was stripped of both equipment, rifles & trained manpower to get the other 2 regiments up to strength. According to Bob Bloomer, a marine with the 2nd Marine rgmt at Guadalcanal, they had Rifle stocks in San Diego, not rifles.
I know we all talk about American construction but the truth is that we were extremely underequiped in '41. Many of these deficiencies were not corrected till '43. The Marines in particular were the poor man out when it came to equipment. The stories i was told talked about the ammunition for the 37mm AT guns being from 1920 and having a 50% dud rate. among others.
To make a short story long, i decided to bring in the full 2nd Marines in June '42.

That was your fault that Britain starts with about 30 AA cruisers??? Damn Allied fanboys! [:'(][:D]
You know, i thought at least some of the older cruisers were the AA conversions as well, and then i am reading about it and not one of the AA cruisers made it to the Far East. Kinda short sighted by Britain.

Not that the C class AA conversions are really tha good. In my Scen 15, I have lost 3 already at Rangoon... only thing they are good for is destroyer leaders.
Which by the way, will be implemented into the WPO mod.

I have a question regarding your mod. I notice that the SOC-3 Seagull has a First Month, First Year date of 0. All the others have a date even if before the war. Will that cause a problem?
Thanks.
