Oil fuel

Hi all,

I really really hesitate to mention this as i tend to play Japan, but I think the game allows Japan to produce to much fuel oil.

The max potential production without conquering California was 70,000,000 bbbls give or take a few.
That would allow about 10,000 tons of light, medium and heavy fuel oil per day. As it stands we have what, 2200 oil points or so each producing one fuel and say 12000 coastal HI producing about 16000 fuel points.

That makes a game combined total of 18000 tons of fuel per day. Which is close to double what was actually possible. I think Japans war time height on fuel oil production was in '43 at about 5479 tons a day.

The numbers i used are less than 5,000,000bbls produced in home areas & synthetic, plus a max of 65,000,000bbls from Indonesia. The Indonesian crude was producing around 42-44% Fuel oils.

So, possibly the HI should produce .7 fuel points a day or so.

Are we sure 1 fuel point equals 1 ton? Just thought I'd ask....

I am pretty sure it does as for the most part the max fuel number on a ship equals its fuel tonnage.

I do not think it does. I have run many a ship deep into the red and it does not remove 5500 fuel points to fill it up again. That is for a IJN sub.

Never was sure of the relationship.

Should be simple enough to check ... Yamato holds 6300 fuel (in game) ... whats was it's real world equivilent?

2ACR, that is endurance of the ship not fuel capacity. You have to get into the editor to see fuel capacity.

Mr. Frag, Yeah, that was the Yamato fuel capacity in tons.

Ok, move Yammy 1 hex and see how much it burns at cruise speed.

Hows that compare with the historical rate of fuel use?

If it too seems to fit, then we are ton = ton = ton and you can do the math quite simply.

The only variable that can't be controlled is the historical results of damage to the SRA production locations.

Frag,

yeah, the movement seems to work out virtually perfectly fuel usage wise. The Yamato is very easy to check as there is more info available then for most other vessels.

I think everything is working correctly, i am very impressed with Matrix's work on fuel/endurance.
I just think that Japan can create too much naval fuel during the game.

Hi, It's up to chance pretty much. If the SRA is taken intact Japan has an fuel/oil boom If Palembang is captured 100 percent damaged Japan is going to have fuel/oil shortage. (900 oil centers produce 900 fuel per day and 5400 oil per day just at Palembang 100 percent working.)
If Palembang 100 percent damaged it will take 900 turns and 900,000 supply to fix [X(]
I think we gave the benifit of the doubt. In more then 1 game I had where I needed over 1,500,000 supply to repair damage

If you don't mind as I go through my PBEM games and capture centers I'll post the condition I find them in here in your thread. Others can do so too if you'd like. Or we can start a thread to track average oil status of Japan after SRA operations to see if any change is desired.

See, i am not so much concerned with how the game goes, i am looking at the max production Japan can have without ahistorical conquests and it is too high .

Hi, In reality the Japanese could (and did) use unrefined Borneo oil as fuel. (It was highly explosive and fires caused the loss of more then one ship) However even with all the minus of using this fuel it allowed them to base a large portion of the IJN there and contiue to operate.
In WITP you cannot use oil for fuel. We could not omit it but we also could not track it.
What is important is oil for the purpose of supply production not fuel. And the movement of fuel to where it is required. (Japan may have to ship fuel to Borneo and that is hauling coals to NewCastle. )

I know it seemed like a lot of fuel to me until I refueled my BB TF It drained over 15,000 fuel from my base and still wasn't full... Now I just think I don't have enough fuel at my forward bases....

As for oil its pretty much luck as to whether or not you will get a lot.. In one PBeM I captured Balikpapan (after 3 days of fighting) and nothing there was damaged... In another game I captured it after 1 day of fighting and half the oil is damaged... I think the oil amount is good for now.. We will have to wait to more people get into the later stages of the game - like 43 and onwards...

Oil damage is one of the reasons I wait before I capture Palembang so the enemy cannot bomb it... And I know I have to take it quit to minimize the damage to it... If Palembang is heavily damaged, Japan is in trouble.

It's very logical the way the system works : ground combat has no influence on damage on resources center.
There is only one destruction check, when the base actually falls. So, with 3 days of fighting, you've probably destroyed/disabled a lot more engineers than in 1 day, thus suffered a lot less damage.
Japan player should take the time to bombard a lot the engineers units before taking the base.
