Hi all,

one more victim for Mogami. Well, actually I wanted to play Mogami since UV days[&o]. Maybe some special form of megalomania on my side, as this is my first PBEM ever [:)].
But we'll see...!

The game is going on for some time now, and we have played about four weeks in game time by now (like Dadman and Cpt. Cruft, I guess). I'm the Allies and Mogami plays Japan.

I sincerely hope, that there are not too many AARs with players vs. Mogami running, but it may be interesting for some of you to see, how Mogamis approach to the game (and starting conditions) works against different persons.

In every case, comments and advices are surely welcome!

But please, don't tell me developments in other parallel running AARs (I don't look at the sveint vs. Mogami game, as I know that they're further in the war than Mogami and me, and the only intelligence I need is from the OP and SIGINT reports of our game[8D])

I'll post not the whole AARs, only summaries of the daily reports and a weekly report on sunken ships and the most important developments.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS OF FIRST WEEK:

12/07/41

Heavy air attacks on Singapore, Clark Field, and Pearl Harbour (surprise, surprise). Altogether, more than 200 planes were destroyed on ground (could have flown out the planes from Clark, but I think that the first turn attack should be a success for Japan).
BB Nevada and DD Shaw sunk at PH, many more ships are in various states of damage. (not all Kates employed torps). Dutch ML Rigel sunk by I-121, DD Van Ghent by I-122. Japanese subs seem to be quite active in Dutch waters. Only two landings, Batan Island (captured) and Guam. Elsewhere, Allied forces start operations Black Imp, Pink Tiger, and Wonderland.

Thunderstorms over the PI and in the DEI - My prayers have been heard! AK Siberoet (later scuttled) by I-121 near near Batavia, AK Montanes sunk by CA Chokai and 4 DD somewhere near Mindanao. I-7 attacked TK William H.Berg near Seattle[&:]. I-153 torpedoed British DD Stronghold near Batavia, but is sunk by DD Express soon after. DD Stronghold is heavily damaged but makes it to port. AK Nagara Maru torpedoed by Dutch sub KXIII near Kuantan. SS Skipjack torpedoes CA Maya near Manila - duds[:@]. Landings at Davao and Legaspi, Guam surrenders to the enemy (only civilians).

12/09/41

Again bad weather in many places. Kido Butai spotted near Midway steering west. Some hits on APs and CL Nagara at Davao by coastal artillery. TK Ogurusan Maru torpedoed by S-39 near Davao. I-121 sunk by Australian MSW TF from Singapore[:D]. Naval bombardment of Cagayan - no Allied losses! Japanes landings in Malaya at Kuantan and at Lingayen/Luzon. AK Elcano sunk by carrier airplanes near Mindanao. Both CVLs present according to number of attacking planes (overkill).

12/10/41

Some Thunderstorms[:)]. Japanese shock attack at Kuantan forces British forces to withdraw, not many losses for both sides. TK Ogurusan Maru is confirmed sunk. At Butuan/Mindanao AK Corregidor and AK Capillo were sunk by BB Haruna, BB Kongo, CL Naka, 7 DD. Butuan was bombarded afterwards. AKs Governor Wright, Escalante R, and Si Kiang were sunk by carrier airplanes west of Palau. Lingayen captured. 5 AKs lost in one day [:@].

Thunderstorms continue. Kido Butai NNW of Midway. MSW Penguin meets 3 Japanes APs and is severely damaged in the fight (and it was supposed to be a combat vessel[:@]).
I-166 sinks AK Merendoeng near Palembang. AK Dos Hermanoes sunk by carrier airplane near Mindanao. Airstrike from Singapore hits Japanese ships (APs) near Kuantan.
Landings at Aparri. Battle for Hongkong begins.

Not much action. AK Bisayas sunk by Betties near Puerto Princesa. Combat at Hongkong continues. Some sub torpedo duds[:(].

12/13/41

Clear skies over Singapore. Attack by Japanese planes kills CL Marblehead and CL Durban[:@]. Oddly, it was neither in my Combat Report nor the Combat Animation. Maybe some kind of bug or simply FOW? Found only out by looking at the list of sunken ships...! And Hongkong fell to the enemy - much too early for my taste. SS KXVI puts a torp in DD Oyashio (but maybe FOW). Naval bombardment of Menado, some P-40 Warhawks destroyed. Some air attacks in the PI, but losses remain low. Zeros from Davao strafe some of my PTs at Dadjangas. Two of my ASW TF hit Japanese subs somewhere between PH and SF (I-19 and I-24), but not sure if they truely damaged them. Time will tell, as these subs are surely far away from home! AK Paz hit by naval airplanes near Menado. 55th Division captures Tavoy, Imperial Guards Victoria Point. Both places were empty, as I evacuated the BF from VP early (Operation Pink Tiger)

SUMMARY OF FIRST WEEK:

1 BB, 2 CL, 2 DD, 1 ML, 11 AK, 5 PT were lost on my side. Of the AKs, 9 were lost fleeing the PI (3 fell victim to naval surface forces, 6 to planes). Two AKs were lost to subs. Confirmed Japanese losses were 2 SS, 1 TK. Bad score for me till now!

LTG Percival replaced by LTG C.M. Wavell. According to Mr. Churchill, LTG Percival will take over the defense of Tobruk: "We need someone with his experience concerning the construction of fortresses right there. Raffles has proven to be the right man for just this task, and the Japanese are hundrets of miles away from Singapore. We'll stop them before!"

Good weather in most parts of the PTO[:(]. AK Lematang is sunk by I-166 near Palembang (a very successful sub[:@]). Zeros attack US PTs near Davao. PTs engage BB Ise, BB Hyuga, 2 CA, 2 CL, 6 DD, they score no hits and only one survives. AK Sagoland and (again) AK Paz attacked by carrier planes. AK Paz sinks.

12/15/41

Japanese seem to be quite busy hauling fuel to Davao (many TK and AO sighted). Fighter sweep on Clark Field, some air attacks on units of the PA at Naga. Hudson hits BB Mutsu, but not much damage (from 250lb bomb). AK Sagoland torpedoed again, but still afloat. MSW Penguin scuttled due to the damage it received in earlier combat with Japanese APs[X(].

Japanese I-19 is sunk by US ASW TF somewhere between PH and SF[:D]. Night air attacks on Palembang and Batavia ports. TK Augustina is hit, but not much damage. I-165 torpedoes AK Siantar near Soerabaja, but the AK survives. Dutch sub KXII sunk by the escorts of BB Mutsu near Kuantan. Landing at Morotai.

12/17/41

Landings at Laoag. Morotai is taken. AK Tsukikawa Maru torpedoed by S-37 near Mindanao. Naval bombardment of of Menado (BB Haruna, BB Kongo, 2 CA, 2 CL, 5 DD; guess I did hit the DD Oyashio before). Fighter sweep on CF. Again a night attack on Batavia, but no hits this time.

Night time surface combat at Balikpapan. Dutch PTs engage BB Hyuga, BB Ise, 2 CA, 2 CL, 6 DD at 1,000 yards, Dutch Lt. Goerk manages to cross-the-T, but only one torpedo hit on CA Haguro (no heavy damage), 1 PT lost. Balikpapan bombarded afterwards. Landings at Vigan/PI reported, Laoag captured by the enemy. Fighter sweep on Singapore. Kido Butai pounds Wake (improving the xp of his pilots and hitting my coastal artillery.

6th NLF lands at Lamon Bay, but meets resistance from PA-Division spending their holidays there[:D]. 6th NLF quickly reembarks and looks for other places to be nasty. Again a fighter sweep on Singapore (but not many losses taken in all these sweeps, I don't want to fight his damned Zeros, I want to kill his bombers). Vigan and San Marcelinho were taken and the Penang Fortress surrendered at Georgetown. Kido Butai again pounds Wake. Blenheim Is hit AP Kashi Maru at Kuantan, will probably sink.

Naval bombardment of Menado (BB Haruna, BB Kongo, 2 CA, 2 CL, 5 DD). I-122 sunk by Allied ASW TF near Soerabaja. Wasile taken by 5th NLF. Naval bombardment of Kuching (BB Mutsu, BB Nagato, 3 CA, 1 CL, 5 DD). DD Shirakumo sunk by coastal artillery. 2 Dutch, 1 Australian MSW sunk by Nells at Palembang.

SUMMARY OF SECOND WEEK:

4 MSW, 2 AK, 6 PT lost (error: the week before, I lost no PTs). Japanese losses were 1 DD, 2 SS, 1 AP (subject to FOW). Altogether, I lost 11 AK while withdrawing ships from the PI (four of them while trying to haul supplies to Manila, thus they were not exactly lost in the process of the retreat). In the end, I consider the withdrawal of ships from the PI as a success, as he did not catch any of the ships that were carrying evacuated Base Forces to Australia (he went for other targets[;)]). Of course, the bad weather was a big help in this operation!

My opinion has always been that the Japanese attack on Clark AFB got very lucky. It didn't have to be that way: the Americans were aware that hostilities had started, they had a working radar, and they had even sortied aircraft -- which returned just in time to be caught on the ground by the Japanese strike (which in turn had been delayed).

Hi, He was allowed to give orders to every Allied unit except for those at PH. I find quite a few Alied players who even though I allow them more freedom on turn 1 prefer not to give orders at all. (I guess they feel sorry for the Japanese)
(under the same starting conditions as Allies I don't run away but I do issue orders)

Dutch sub KXVI sinks CS Mizuho near Menado [:D]. Naval bombardment of Menado (BB Haruna, BB Kongo, 2 CA, 2 CL, 5 DD). 3rd NLF lands at Tawi Tawi. Air attacks with Nells on Singapore, AK Soochow sinks in port, AK Hinsang later near Sinkep Island. Hudsons from Singapore score some hits on a Japanese convoy heading to Saigon, two AKs heavily damaged. 23rd NLF lands at Butuan, 56th Bde captures Menado, 21st NLF Zamboanga. 21st Division suffers heavy losses in attack on Chinese forces near the border to Indochine.

Blenheim Is from Rangoon successfully attack 55th Division near Moulmein. Japanese airstrikes in China. Kido Butai again pounds Wake. Landings on Wake are expected for next turn. A Hudson manages to hit BB Kongo near Amboina (but no real damage to her). 28th NLF lands at Jesselton, Butuan taken by 23rd NLF.

Naval bombardment and landing at Wake. Wake falls[:(], but AP Rozan Maru hits a mine, heavy losses for the embarked troops. Naga bombarded by 2 CA, 1 CL, 8 DD. Air bombardments of Chinese forces continue. Air attacks in the PI and Malaya. Jesselton and Roxas were captured, new landings at Taytay, Puerto Princesa, and Sandakan.

12/24/41

Christmas time. Naval bombardment of Lamon Bay (with the TF with pounded Naga one day before). Allied losses were low. Some airstrikes on Allied forces in China and Malaya. 21st Mixed Bde captures Kuala Lumpur (troops there were withdrawn before). Taytay, Puerto Princesa, and Sandakan taken by NLF. New landing at Miri.

12/25/41

Landings at Jolo and Kendari. Miri captured by 9th NLF. SS I-9 torpedoes AS Fulton and AK Minnesotan near Anchorage, both survive. Airstrikes against Allied LCU continue.

12/26/41

Kendari captured. Dutch forces retreat. New landings: Amboina and Bulla. Jolo fell to 1st and 2nd NLF. Blenheim Is strike again on 55th Division. AVG suffers some losses at Rangoon, AK Jalapalaka sunk by Nells.

12/27/41

Allied sub S-38 torpedoes AP Heiku Maru near Lingayen, AP will probably sink. New airstrikes in China and Malaya. Japanese ground attacks at Naga and Cotabutao failed, but both will fall soon. Moulmein captured by 55th Division, Burmese forces withdrew after short resistance.

SUMMARY OF THIRD WEEK:

Allied ship losses were 1 SS and 3 AK, two of the AK after delivering much needed supply to Singapore. Japanese losses were the CS Mizuho, SS I-19, and maybe the AP Rozan Maru (FOW). This week was not bad for me, but his invasions are gaining speed. I hoped for Naga to last longer, but it will fall quite soon. And Kido Butai vanished after Wake....!

Dutch sub KXVI is sunk near Amboina[:(]. AP Heiku Maru sinks (as expected), taking soldiers from the 38th Division wih her to the bottom of the sea. Air attacks on Allied troops in China and Malaya continue. Japanese attacks on Naga and Cotatabo in the PI. 55th Division takes Moulmein after a short fight.

12/29/41

Naval bombardments of Tuguegarao (2 CA, 8 DD), Macassar (BB Haruna, BB Kongo, 2 CA, 2 CL, 5 DD), and Cotatabo (BB Ise, BB Hyuga, 1 CA, 2 CL, 5 DD). Air strikes continue. A NLF lands at Sorong and the 38th Division at Iloilo. Tacloban taken by 28th NLF. And Naga has fallen after vicious fighting!

12/30/41

Iloilo and Cotatabo are lost (many troops surrendered). Sorong is taken too, but Tarakan holds out vs. 1st and 2nd NLF. Macassar again bombarded by BB Haruna/Kongo TF. Continuing airstrikes...

Tuguegarao bombarded again. Airstrikes again. British Admiralty orders 1 CL, 2 DD back to the Atlantic[:@]. I'll surely find an obsolete CL, but DDs are in heavy demand, not sure if I really should send them back.

01/01/42

Today there was some more action: Attack on Cebu/PI. The coastal artillery scored many hits vs. his landing TF (odd, there were no CAs or CLs to suppress the batteries). Heavy losses for the 38th Division. This elite combat format should be in a rather bad shape by now[:D]. After the landings, a bombardment TF arrived (BB Hyuga, BB Ise, 1 CA, 2 CL, 5 DD), but again the coastal batteries scored: 2 DDs (Hagikaze and Maikaze) were reported to be on fire. SS Salmon torpedoes AP Shinryu Maru near Palau. Japanes attack on the road between Naga and Manila forced the former defenders of Naga to retreat to Manila, but a fresh PS RCT was in place to give the attackers a small bash on the head before retreating with the others. Bad news: He lands at Koepang/Timor. I saw it coming, but again one of my surface TFs refused to intercept[:(]. Near Koepang, a Hudson scores a hit on DD Umikaze.

Japanese 4th Division takes Macassar, but Koepang surprisingly holds out vs. the 56th Bde. In Malaya, Malacca is taken by strong forces (the whole bunch of his Malaya Army, including the Imperial Guards). Not many losses on both sides, as most of the defenders retreated just in time (only one Bde lagged behind, maybe too disrupted to retreat fast enough). Well, I never wanted to fight at Malacca as there is neither an airfield nor adequate fortifications in place. PC Shenen Maru #17 sinks at Cebu due to earlier damage. I sincerely hope that it will not be the only one here. Tarakan is still my property. And his ground forces start to bombard Chinese forces near the border to Indochine.

The 56th Bde takes Koepang, the 5th NLF Namlea. In China, some of my forces were forced to retreat after a deliberate attack. I-23 sinks due to earlier damage (it was one of the subs my ASW-TF hit in the middle of the Pacific between SF and PH).

SUMMARY OF FOURTH WEEK:

Allied ship losses were 1 SS (Dutch), Japanese losses were 1 SS, 1 PC, 1 AP (FOW, guess that some more went down). His attacks in China forced some Chinese units to withdraw from the railway line to Hanoi. In the PI, only Manila, Clark Field, Bataan, Tuguegarao, Lamon Bay, and the two bases on Leyte are in my possession now. Manila is expected to fall in the next week. His early attack on Timor surprised me somewhat, but that could have been another story if naval reaction had worked according to my plans. British admirals seem to be too careful for my tastes. The good news is, that the British and CW forces in Malaya retreated quite intact. They'll be ready and prepared for their last stand at Singapore. My biggest concern at the given time is, of course, the whereabouts of Kido Butai. I got some intelligence on this, but no proven facts.

Landings and bombardments continue. Chinese forces retreating in southern China. By now he has cleared the railway between Canton and Hanoi. DD Fox sinks.

01/06/42

Landing at Brunei. Some hits scored by coastal artillery on invasion TFs, DD Hatsuhara is reported to be on fire. AP Zuiho Maru has a violent encounter with a mine at Tarakan (wish it had been CVL Zuiho!). Naval bombardment of Balikpapan (BB Haruna, BB Kongo, 2 CA, 2 CL, 5 DD). Afterwards, landings at Balikpapan, some hits by mines and CD-guns. Airstrikes and land bombardments on Allied troops everywhere. AVG takes heavy losses at Rangoon. Tarakan, Sansapor, and Brunei were taken by the enemy.

Royal Navy bombards Moulmein (CA Exeter, CA Cornwall, 2 CL, 2 DD). Landings at Balikpapan continue, PG Kanko Maru hits a mine. SS Seawolf torpedoes AP Somedono Maru near Kendari. Airbattles over Rangoon and Chungking, heavy losses on both sides (each about 25 planes today). Japanese artillery bombardments at Clark Field and Manila. Balikpapan captured[X(].

Manila and Clark Field again under heavy artillery fire. PG Kanko Maru seems to be severely damaged from earlier mine encounter.

01/09/42

Naval bombardment of Samarinda (BB Haruna, BB Kongo, 2 CA, 2 CL, 5 DD). Dili and Tomini were taken. Japanese deliberate attacks on Manila and Johore Bharu fail under heavy Japanese losses at Manila (2223 casualties, 79 guns, 9 vehicles)[:D].

01/10/42

Naval bombardment of Kuching (BB Nagato, BB Mutsu, 3 CA, 2 CL, 11 DD). Artillery bombardments at Manila (only one unit) and Clark Field. Pomala (never heard of before) is captured. Royal Navy again bombards Moulmein, but Japanese 55th Division happily moves forward in the direction of Rangoon (wonder how he keeps it supplied).

SUMMARY OF FIFTH WEEK:

Allied ship losses were 1 DD, confirmed Japanese losses 1 AP (at Palau, maybe scuttled). Not much action, but the weather was quite bad one more time, thus air operations were hindered somewhat. Surprisingly for me, Manila still holds out and may hold out for some more time (fortifications were recently improved). My forces in the PI (that means, on Luzon) and Malaya are well supplied. But I'm not sure if Johore Bharu will hold out much longer, all too soon Singapore will be under direct attack. And I'm worried about his push for Rangoon. This comes quite early, and I'll need some more days until superior forces will be in place there to attack his impertinent 55th Division.

Not much action. Artillery bombardment and air attack at Manila. Air attack on Japanese ground forces at Johore Bharu.

01/12/42

Naval bombardment of Rabaul (BB Fuso, BB Yamashiro, 4 CA, 2 CL, 9 DD). Some TFs spotted near Singapore (heading for Sinkep or Palembang[&:]). Airbattle over Changsha, 18 Nates and 1 Zero were shot down by Allied pilots. 2nd LT K.Lindsay of 21st FS is now my leading ace with 6 kills (this turn, I lost 12 planes to his 23). Some air attacks on my ground forces in Malaya, China, and the PI. Ground combat at Johore Bharu reduced my forts to 4. Will fall all too soon now.

01/13/42

Air attacks on 50th Chinese Corps in southern China and at Rangoon. Hudson Is from Singapore manage to hit AP Sumiyoshi Maru. My guesses concerning an attack on Palembang or Sinkep were wrong, he is transporting engineer units to Johore Bharu for the eventual attack on Singapore. Japanes shock attack at Manila failed under heavy losses (2365 casualties, 45 guns, 14 vehicles were lost by him). Johore Bharu falls, but my troops withdrew in good order (low losses and disruption). A NLF takes Noemfoor.

Japanese SS I-18 torpedoes AK Challenger and TK Empire Silver near SF, both ships survive. Naval bombardment of Sinkawang (BB Nagato, BB Mutsu, 4 CA, 2 CL, 10 DD). Some airstrikes in China, PI, and Burma. Hudson Is plaster AP Hokushu Maru at Johore Bharu with bombs, B-17C Fortresses from India attack Rahaeng/Siam. A NLF takes Makale.

01/15/42

Massive airstrike on Changsha, but losses were low (no planes, only some support troops, AF intact). Japanese SS RO-64 fails to hit a FT TF near Dobadura.

01/16/42

Naval bombardment of Rabaul (again BB Fuso/BB Yamashiro TF). Another airstrike on Changsha. SS I-10 torpedoes DM Sicard near Gili Gili (DM later sinks). Kai Island captured (whereever this place is, have to take a look on the map).

01/17/42

Lots of fruitless submarine and ASW action in the whole PTO. Japanese forces land at Kavieng.

SUMMARY OF SIXTH WEEK:

Allied lost DM Sicard, no Japanese ship losses reported. He has taken Johore Bharu, but that was no surprise (given the odds). It seems that he is not ready to attack Singapore proper (probably waiting for engineers and supplies). Until now, my defense of Luzon worked quite well (I guess that he'll need one more division to speed things up there). I'm still worried about Rangoon, his single division there seems to be stronger than my 5 Brigades there (not all at Rangoon) and the troops from India need their time.

Again not much action compared to other AAR's. I fear that this AAR is not much fun for the readers, as my (current) approach is rather defensive. I'm somewhat reluctant to commit my forces before I'm ready. Seems rather pointless to sacrifice good ships (like POW) vs. superior Japanese forces. IMHO the gains are not worth the losses at this stage of the game (and POW continues to be some kind of threat for his operations as long as she is afloat). Problem is, that he never even spotted her when I intended her to be spotted. Maybe some special kind of bad luck on my side.

The main problem of defending too passively as the Allies seems to be that one does not attrit the Japanese enough. I lost not many ships, but Japan lost even less. Same with planes, and Mogami is surely very careful with his planes and pilots. The good thing is, that the bonus of the damned Zeros degrades over time and my P-40 Warhawks and even the Hurricanes will be more able to fight them as time passes. Surprisingly, some of the air assets evacuated from the PI are quite experienced by now.

Again not much action compared to other AAR's. I fear that this AAR is not much fun for the readers, as my (current) approach is rather defensive. I'm somewhat reluctant to commit my forces before I'm ready.

Don't worry about the entertainment level -- this reader at least is impressed by your summaries. (Although it would be nice to hear from Mogami once in while, he seems to be keeping too many PBEM games going at once to do much writing.) And I think the defensive posture is correct against the advance so far. You needn't worry over much about attrition to the Japanese: eventually you'll outnumber them anyway. The important thing is time. You want to slow him down rather than inflict losses.

Hi, Kereguelen does such a fine job reporting there is very little for me to add. Since no Japanese operation has concluded yet I can't go into any more detail then Kereguelen.
All I can say so far is that I am satisified with progress to date.

Not much action to report, but at least some Japanese ships were sunk this week.

Dutch Martin 139 bombers hit AP Iburi Maru and AP Mitsu Maru near Singapore, both on fire and showing
heavy damage. Ibuki Maru sinks the same day. Later they hit AP Zenyo Maru. Betties attack Dutch Surface TF at Soerabaja, no hits, my flak was very busy today. Kavieng taken. One of my brigades near Rangoon was forced to retrat.

SS KXVII torpedoes AP Otori Maru near Singapore. The AP is later sunk by Hudson Is from Singapore.

SUMMARY OF SEVENTH WEEK:

No Allied ship losses, Japanese confirmed ship losses were 1 MSW and 6 AP. Rangoon is still threatened by the 55th
Japanese Division. Manila and Singapore are expected to fall next week. Unti now, he has lost about 6,500 men trying to
take Manila (of couse, many will only be disabled, but still...). And he sacrificed some APs, I guess that he now wants to
speed up the fall of Singapore. Nothing that I can do to counter this, but I hope that he'll have to pay a high price!

vastly superior to the Hawk 75A flying CAP, no Zero was shot down, but I lost 14 Hawks. The Hawk 75A is
flying junk! Some air bombings of my forces in China and at Rangoon. 3rd and 8th NLF take Lamon Bay (unopposed)
and the 32nd NLF takes Guiuan/PI. Artillery bombardment at Clark Field costs him 372 casualties and 17 guns.

The Allies lost one sub, confirmed Japanese ship losses were 1 DD, 1 SS, 1 PC, 4 AP. The fall of Manila is bad news[:(],
but at least the loss of the troops there may lessen my supply problems (most troops lost were base forces, but I also lost
the 4th USMC RCT). Singapore will fall during the next few days (the garrison is still quite strong, but the forts were reduced
to 3).

SUMMARY OF NINTH WEEK:

As expected, Singapore fell. I'm not sure what to think about this. While the time of the fall of
Singapore is OK (I did not commit the 18th British Division as it was historically done) to me, the IJA
lost only a small amount of troops in the Malaya campaign. Too few for my tastes, but I'm not sure if
this is due to certain mechanics of the game or to a failed strategy. At the time of the fall of Singapore,
the troops in place were pretty well supplied and rested (some squads were disabled, but not too many). My
strategy from the beginning has been to fall back to Singapore to be as strong as possible in the siege of the
city. The plan worked well, but the results were not as expected, as I hoped for massive Japanese losses. As
far as I know, the Japanese troops in Malaya should be in a pretty good shape now, while I lost nearly 90,000
troops in the campaign (the loss is ok, but the toll taken surely not). Maybe it is simply too easy to reduce
fortifications in places defended by large garrisons? Not sure about this...!

The only ship lost this week has been a Japanese MSW. Air losses were quite low for both sides. Mogami already posted
the scores for 02-09-42.

SUMMARY OF TENTH WEEK:

Uneventfull week: No ship losses. Japanese landings in Borneo, New Britan, and PNG continue. Clark Field and Rabaul will fall next week. Japan lost more planes than the Allies, mainly due to flak, but his plane losses remain low. Until I have some decent airfields in China, I see no (useful) way to change this. Of course I'll lose some more planes when he'll eventually attack Java.

I've also wondered about the model for capture of cities - does the model assume that the Allies always surrender easily rather than stand and fight? What if one wants to mount a determined defense as the Allies? Large cities just do not seem to give any advantage to Allied forces on the defensive.
