Not all 'early' CV battles go the IJN way

This is in late June 1942, against the AI on Hard:
Hornet
Lex
Enterprise
Yorktown
Akagi
Kaga
Hiryu
Shoho
The 2 allied TFs were never spotted by the Vals, the Jap TF was spotted very early by Beauforts from PM. The allied TFs even reacted by moving closer one hex and putting the TBDs in range. [:)]
All Jap CVs were hit very hard, including with bombers out of PM and Cooktown, without a single strike in return.

You have obviously found a bug. Better report it under the support thread. This is not allowed to happen.[:D][:D][:D][:D]

I actually have one PBEM were I sunk 2 jap CV'S in the first couple of weeks and
two PBEM'S that I sunk a carrier in the first week of the war.
although I lost a lot of heavies in the fray's.
The game that lost two carriers my Apponant accidently picked operation outfield
as the start so I massed my carriers and battleship forces in between japan and
his strike forces.

Had similar result in a pbem game. In the first turn a carrierbattle started near Hawaii.
I (Japan) lost one carrier (three damaged) to one US CV ( one damaged).

I sunk 4 japanese CVs (PH strike force) in the first 2 or three days. With variable setup 2 US CVs were in range and managed to cripple 3 out of 4 the first day. Surface TFs harassed them the next 3 nights and CVs finished the job. The game was pretty much over by mid 42. Shokaku and Zuikaku went down in Singapore harbor when I captured it, B17s from Iwo bombed home islands and Defence in Filippines managed to destroy all invaders . Not much to do after that. Pretty sad performance from AI.

That initial blow was very lucky. I've had the same variable setup with full alert, carriers positioned near Pearl many times and never seem them actually ding more than one japanese CV. Crippling three out of four is truly extraordinary and I can understand how it would make for a short game.
Regarding AI performance (apart from die rolls), the upcoming patch improves on many of the reported AI weak spots. Give it another try once 1.30 is released. [8D]
