West of Krakow: 1110 Hours 10/18/39
After being pulled out of the line last month and having some time off, we have again moved back up to the front. Thought this war was over already. But the polish people are fighting back harder then we expected. They badly mauled the XV Grenadiers at Jaroslaw about five days ago. We dont have the disadvantage of the XV tho. It is a clear day and our big guns will tear hell out of the Poles if they decide to attack. The men are rested and eager to get back at them for what they did to our fellow soldiers at Jaroslaw.
We have been given the task of holding and inflicting as much damage on the enemy as we can. The terrain is good lot of open land here. The north flank has two roads running east to west about 1000 yards apart. There is a bridge on the north road just before our perimeter. A ridge runs NE down SE to the other road and a small hill there. Behind this about 700 yards is our defensive positions. Behind them about 150 yards is a large forest. I have set up my stronpoints here with Engineers 2 sec ATG 37MM and a couple of MMG nests. They are backed up by 1 sec PZIV and sec light tanks. They also have sec sig 150 for support. The remaining two thirds of our sector is wide open field.
I have placed the three plattoons of Infantry here spaced about 200 yards apart between plattoons. There is 2 hills here about 500 yards long. The plattoons are about 150 to 200 yards in front of them. On the slopes i put my heavy pill box with a MMG nest. Behind them spaced along the tops of each hill are my big guns. A sec of 88s on each with a sec of 150s also. This should give me some long range shots at the enemy before they ever get close. I will instruct them to open up at around 1000 yards. The rest of the force here is made up of one plattoon of medium tanks,2 sec light tanks plus 2 sec armored cars.
I have a plattoon of Medium tanks and sec of light tanks sitting behind these two hills in reserve. They can reach any section of the line in less then 10 minutes. The men are alert and eager for action. It is cold today but at least the snow has stopped couple days ago.
