Textures

Think i mite be just be missing a basic principle but can anybody point me in the right direction on applying textures to my models.

Do all textures have to be applied in Magic?

If that is not the case then can i use UV mapping to apply textures and if so how to i get it back into the mag object?

Or is there something else i should be doing to get good well laid out textures on my models?

You can apply textures in any program that can export in 3DS or OBJ format (and possibly one more format, I forget). To import them just use the normal load dialog set to show all files.

Thanks - ive been using wings3d but its not very helpfull for texturing, so i will try and find something else.
Who said its only a game????
