Automatic Defensive Shifts

Following from my thread on the Tactical Shift Rosette, Joe mentioned the fact that the defender always receives an automatic -4 shift in all combats.

The rule relating to this in KORSUN POCKET is 7.2.1 "Defending Shifts: A defender begins with an automatic combat bonus of -4 shifts, although this can lower to -6 if any fortifications are present in the hex".

Was this rule omitted by accident from the BiN manual and does it definitely apply to BiN? Do fortifications give an extra -2 shift to the defender?

Adam,

-4 tactical shift for defender remains same as KP. For strongpoints and forts look at the CRT tables. Click on see strongpoints to see if they modify combat odds (this is set in editor and may change from scenario to scenario).

Thanks JSS - I owe you and Joe for helping on this rule.

My concern was really not knowing if the -2 fort aspect applied too [&:].

I think the best things about BiN are the re-thinking and refinement of the KP engine, some interesting tweaks and developments plus a lot of chrome that the scen designer can incorporate in setting its parameters.

I don't think there is enough credit being given for this - or whether its simply a fact that being so new, people are yet to know. But buyers should note this.

Even the entire rules book is a massive rethink and re-organization over that for KP. I appreciate it completely - but of course, I think it just needs a little tweak of itself in a few areas - just another once over maybe by an impartial eye to see if anything further like this rule is missing or could be added to.

I hope there won't be too many more questions arising from me - only a couple left at this stage [:'(] and appreciate the willingness here to assist.

Adam.
