B5 Update

Okay, heres the deal.
I"m sick of dealing with that php site so its gone, in the new while i"ll put up a secure html site.
As for the mod, its ready, but I have made some changes.
I am releasing the 500 mod as open source for the community, it will be released in a zip format that you uncompress in your root ss directory, this means you need the -filesys command to run it
If you wish to make it into a dat so you can multiplayer all the power to you
I"m doing this for a number of reasons.. one, a lot of work went into this, and it will help other modders if they have something to work for
Also, some of the tricks like how I did hyperspace should be open source so other people can perhaps use them for ideas they might have.
Finally, having it all open will make it a LOT easyer for people to add in ships of their own.
The release will also have the excell stats file I used, so you can easly balance any new ships you may have.
Feel free to release addons or what not for it, but I make no promises that any of them will work for any 500 updates, for that to happen you will have to email me all the details of your addon, or make a post here.
As for rights on models and textures... there is not much you can do with them, a lot of the models are my older work that franky I think is pretty crappy lol, and the new ones are in mag format so its not exatly like they would be easy to edit. Do what you want, just remeber whos they are.
After this is out, I"M taking a bit of a break to sit back, relax, game a bit, and wait for some more info on other ss editing areas like camps, interface, systems, awards and what not.. then the dilgar war mod will start.. that wont be open source, cause we have a lot of complex stuff planned.
So, anybody who can offere any hosting or hook me up with sites let me know, it weights in pretty heavy, nearly 1/2 a gig.

That's damn decent of you to opensource your stuff. As for mirror locations, you have an account on my server to feel free to help yourself to a free mirror

Working on it.
And ya, the community needs some good examples, not saying everything will be right 100% right way to go about things, but its better then nothing.
Plus, how will anybody be able to add/edit or change a thing if I dat it, and since there is nothing uber secret or stuff I really dont want changed in this release why not

We just need to come up with a single, downloadable and ready-to-play DAT of the mod, as well as a common naming scheme for mods of this mod so newcomes can just go to a website, download the mod and hop into a server.

ya, that would be great
what we REALLY need is a centreal starshatter site
I had one a while ago, starshatter central, but I didnt have the time to keep it running
we need something like bridgecommander files... online database of all the mods with tutorials and all that, id be more then happy to help run it, suppply graphics and tutorials, and get it know around the net,
I just dont have the time right now to set it up, nevermind knowing all I would need to and haveing a server to put it on
making this mod into a dat should be easy for nearly everybody, except me.. cause it NEVER works for me EVER lol
missions are a big deal
people will have to edit there missions and number then.. so people are going to have to grab blocks... like i"m going to use custom5000-5999 for all my missions.. other people will have to grab their own blocks, so they dont overwrite and I dont even what to know what ss would do if it had missions of the same id

DamoclesX, here's a thought: Let's make a DAT and have it cross-checked by several volunteers whether it works for everyone. Then put the thing up on fileplanet, complete with screenshot and readme.
*Maybe* you can make it to the front page with your mod - but not in this form. It has to be idiot-proof and multiplayer-capable.
What'cha think?

I"m trying to upload it now to you, but it wont, I can put it on an ftp.
I tryed for 4 hours today to dat it, it simply wont go, I dont know why, it compresses into a dat just find but ss wont pick it up as a valid mod so I cant even enable it.
I got a readme made.. and a partial manual that still needs works.. and more screens then I can count.
edit
there it goes
crap this is going very slow
at this rate its gonna take 18 hours....

DamoclesX seems to be busy right now, so I'm posting the BitTorrent tracker url here until he makes a formal announcement and stuff.
B5 MOD DOWNLOAD:
http://hoxdna.org/b5/Babylon5HoldTheLine.torrent
Music+HUD Addon: http://hoxdna.org/b5/HTL500Addon.exe.torrent
The readme can be found here: hoxdna.org/b5/readme.txt
An extensive doc file is here: hoxdna.org/b5/htl-500.doc
A ship stat chart can be found here: hoxdna.org/b5/hold the line.xls
You will need
BitTorrent for the download and WinACE to extract the files.
I'll put up a torrent for a complete DAT file once I made a working one.
New to BitTorrent?
Just download the Bittorrent client for windows, install it, then click on the Bittorrent file link above. It will ask you for a download location. Keep the window open for a few hours after you've finished downloading, so you contribute bandwidth back to the others as well. Thanks!

Bah, WinACE. If you're going to use some random format to get a few more percent,
7-Zip is a good choice.. but nm, WinRar can extract too; something WinACE's self-extractor seems unable to manage.
I'll see if I can recreate the torrent locally from my 100MB-part download.. then I'll post to Usenet

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
Thank you Dam for the joy of getting my poor Hyperion trashed by a bunch of Neutron beams at 200 km!!!!
[&o][&o][&o][&o][&o]
Oh yeah, almost forgot...I noticed that the Cap ships don't seem to have a "jump drive" piece. I take it that the ability to open jumpgates wherever they want to hasn't been implemented. Can SS even do that? Thanks

ACE is not a "random format", it has been around for many many years. And like RAR, it's infinitely better than the classic ZIP, not because of the "few extra percent", but because of it's much longer CRC-Checksum. I've had enough 600-meg ZIPs that were broken because of copy errors, with the extracter not even noticing that something was not ok until the application turned out to be defective [:o]
Hint: Use TotalCommancer. It has ZIP, RAR, ACE and many other file formats supported and uses them like normal directories [;)]
Oh yeah, anyone care to look at why missions won't load when you make a DAT of this mod? I suspect the ship naming is wrong. Any clues?

Now I am torn, Rome:Total War. or the b5 mod.
Aaaargh, for me it is Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War that is the other main attraction, haven't laid my hands on Rome yet. Unfortunately I have a sinking feeling I won't have time to play anything this evening, and then I'm going away over the weekend...

Usenet post starting. I repacked to 15MB RAR, reducing the size of the release to just 245MB (2.77MB parts are really too small for a post of this size on Usenet, sorry guys).
The files are going up to news.usenetserver.com right now, and should be there in about 5 hours. You can download using the following NZB, or by downloading headers from alt.binaries.games or alt.binaries.multimedia.babylon5.
http://hur.st/nzb/p7studios-babylon5-htl-b500.nzb
Please see
our NZB FAQ for a list of clients which support the .nzb format, and these lists of
dedicated NSP's and
ISP news servers.

freaky werewolf, i"m leaving this up to you guys, i"m REALLY sick, I spent all of yesterday alternating between trying to sleep and puking from every hole in my body... it hurts to just look at this screen..... post it, dat it, annonce it, I dont care lol.
missions wont load because they have to be setup as compaigns i think
the ship naming should be fine because, I"ve used that naming before, and it works uncompressed... so I dont see why it wouldnt work as a dat.. but who know, not able to figure it out right now
warhammer
rome
panzers phase 1
so many good games...
