To be honest, I kinda like SWBF. Zero game depth, but the battles at Hoth and Geonosis are fun IMHO.

If you want a good laugh, go play Universal Combat. It's just like Starshatter, only the guy who makes it promises the absolute Killer game - and has been promising since his first "Battlecruiser" release many years ago. His game is larger than Starshatter in scope but everything it does, it does bad. Flying in space, flying on planets, driving on planets, walking on planets - it all feels very unfinished and unpolished, is highly frustrating and provides no satisfactory gameplay at all. Zilch. Got killed? Well, in UC you don't even hear a bang, you get bombed back to the menu. Standing on an oh-so-cool aircraft carrier ship? No good idea, touch a nearby vehicle and you get teleported to the bottom of the sea (!). There are Surface-To-Orbit missiles, and you can even enter and control a launch vehicle for those things - to bad you can't fire them, because that "is not supported and you don't need to be able to do that anyway". Heh...
I hate to say it but he's an arrogant ******* too - behaves like he's John Carmack, only he lacks the skill [8|]
I once emailed him, telling him that I won't be able to host a few servers of his game on our server farm because his program sucked up all available CPU cycles -even when idle- instead of yield()ing or just sleeping while not doing anything. His response was "Your fault if you run it on gameboy hardware" and "It doesn't really use 100% when idle, but only a few percent. That's just what the operating system reports." - In short: Arrogant, and no clue about how threading works.
So... if you think your 40 bucks were spent on a crap game that is SWBF (which it isn't, IMHO), just be glad that you didn't fall for "Battlecruiser" and it's many iterations of blandness. Both Starshatter and SWBF are polished games - try a game by Derek Smart and you'll see what a really crappy game is like [:D]

oh man I hate that guy
I would spit his name but that would be a waste of spit
I woudlnt accept that game if somebody paid ME 40 bucks to try it, hell, he is one of those people if I saw bleeding on the side of the road I would block the road off so there is no chance sombody else would come by and help him.
there are SO many funny sites on the net that just bash him over and over.

Heh... honestly, I tried to approach him without prejudice. In the end, he himself confirmed all the bad things people say about him. He just is that way. And look at his press statements: "Ohh the game will support 150 players and even more - but you won't see more than 2 anyway because the galaxy is so big" - Yeah, suuuuuuure. [8|] [>:]

ya, its best not to think about him, cause nothing good will come to mind.
I find it amazing he ever produced a game, but it does make myself and my buddy more confident we will get out break(right now we are bogged down in getting some sort of financing or sponsoring)

True, guys, true. Totally!
Try and search for his name and you'll discover something way bigger than you and
anyone else can possibly handle. It's... it's HUGE!
Megabytes and megabytes have been wasted on him already in the form of posts,
articles and dedicated websites.
Need a good laugh? Search the name!
Best regards,
Ciao [:)]

oooooooo, y'all are talking about The One Who's Name Shall Not Be Spoken. Guard ye coke machines well maties!
Had my first run-in with TOWNSNBS back on Usenet when I showed how he faked an email (I write Antivirus/Antispam software for enterprise mail servers for a Major Software Security Company for a living) to try and claim someone make racial slurs against him. He actually filed suit against me but his lawyer withdrew the case after he saw my deposition and evidence that his client was lying through his teeth.
He has been dropped (and sued) by nearly every software publsher he has had dealings with.
Net-Kook of legendary proportions.

Hehehe
I would pay REAL money to just have 5 minutes alone with this guy in a back ally:)
Something about all the pics on the net I see of him just make me want to punch him, I fear if I ever run into him it would be just total reflex to pound him into 2050.

It horrifies me that he was even thinking about developing FS3... the franchise would then by truly dead.
