Task Forces Disobey?

Post by Desertmole »

I seem to have a problem with task forces disobeying orders or taking off on their own. For example, I had ordered a US carrier task force with a damaged ship that I ordered to the nearest port (to start repairs). When she was almost there, the task force changed direction to go to another port. I changed it back the enxt day, only to have her change direction again. On day three, the damaged carrier up and sank.[:(]

Another problem is that task forces don't want to stay put. I sent the Long Island to Australia to load some fighters to move them to Noumea. The LI was about half a day out of the Aussie port. The next day she moved into port and back out again. I went through this twice. Finally, I had to change the LI home port to Cairns to get her to stop so I could load the planes. Frustrating![:@]

Am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug?

Have you selected in the TF screen Patrol/Do not retire?Otherwise your TF will automatically return to its Home base.
Another solution is to change its Home base to the nearest port you want your CV TF to sail to.
The explanation could also be that an enemy CV TF has been detected so your TF retreated in order to avoid engagement.

Two other notes on this, make sure your carriers are set to do not react
so they will not charge out to engage the enemy and put in a less
aggressive commander as sometimes a more aggressive commander will
up and charge out regardless of what you set. ( mitchner is famous for this)
although you do want him for carrier attacks

consideration all of the tendencies of the mind
and soul in combination towards the business of
