Fighter control

I have some questions on how to control fighters in the game. First of all, how do you get a flight of fighters to enter a planet's atmosphere (I'm in Operation Highland and I've just entered the Solus sector (I'm replaying the campaign))? The other thing is how do you send off fighters into a different sector to defend Harmony Station? Thanks.

Add a nav point at both ends, one in your current sector and one in your destination sector.
eg nav at farcaster nav at destination sector
eg nav above planet nav on planet surface

But how do you give them specific orders? ex.: "attack starbase"

With anti-shipping missions you select "strike" in the ouftit screen and then pick the correct target from the known listings. However that requires radar/visual confirmation which could also be true for ground strikes. Try running a planetary recon mission.

Ok, so I can now get fighters to change sectors and break orbit. But when I search planetary regions, I don't find anything. I believe that this is because my fighters are staying at maximum altitude, but how do I make them go closer to the surface? Also, if I wanted to send a fighter force into a different sector to take out an enemy ship, how do I target a specific ship? How do I assign a group of fighters to escort this attack group?

Nav screen.
If you right-click the fighter navpoints, you can set the action-code, target, speed, and formation for the element. The individual fighter pilots should be able to figure it out from there.
