Wirraways are OK in my book.

I seem to get sterling service out of my Wirraways. Handy little FB and their quantity allows frequent rotation. Ground attack and low level anti shipping missions are equally suited to this otherwise limited training aircraft.

I learned to love Wirraways back in UV. I find they free up P-40s from light escort work, and P-39s from anti barge work.

Extremely useful in New Guinea and DEI, where there are lots of linked bases incapable of operating larger tactical bombers. Once their experience exceeds 70+, they are rather deadlyat low level anti shipping tasks.

Yeah. God help them though if they get bounced by Zekes....

Yeah, I complain about them. A LOT. But they're quite capable against shipping. rather like the P-39s. Not that useful vs. enemy fighters, but if you have the luxury of attacking convoys with them (P-39s or Wirraways), they're quite capable.
They're also good for CAP in your "beyond the reach of Zeros, but still in range Japanese Nells" bases. They don't even really kill the Nells/Bettys, but the fact that they're there to begin with, discourages attacks, and they do disrupt the attacks (even if they don't shoot any of them down).
I'm still going to call them "Throw-aways" tho. If they think they're not useful, we don't have to pay them as much.

Wirraways are useful for shooing away Japanese bomber raids outside of fighter cover. And they are good in anti-shipping roles.

I treat all my fighter bombers as bombers. To put them in the air as CAP or escorts is just throwing pilots and VP's away. Because of their short range I don't tend to have them on Naval attack, although they are good at it when something does stray into range. I primarily have them on Ground attack, keeping them close to the action.

Ah So, I too like Wirraways as they provide my pilots opportunities for easy kills, experiance and morale
