An appreciation.....

I have had HTTR for a while now.
I must confess that it gathered dust on my shelves for a while because the first time I tried it I just didn't get it. As a long time fan of turn based wargames like the Panzer Campaign series I was very sceptical about real time in this genre.
But I recently had another go and then the lightbulb came on. This is a game that repays careful analysis.
I can now say that in two respects this game is outstanding:
1. The AI. In many years of wargaming this is the best, least predictable, AI I have come up against.
2. The interface. A very elegantly designed interface which gives the player easy control of of a wide range of options.
Great credit also to the scenario designers---every scenario I have played thus far ( as the Axis) has been an interesting and balanced challenge.
Many thanks also to Markshot for his great threads of tips and explanations. It was reading the Markshot threads that first induced me to buy the game and then not to give up on it.
The one thing the game currently lacks to lift it into masterpiece class is a credible supply system. I hope this will be addressed in the future. Another thing I don't yet understand is the role of the brigade/ division support/ supply units. Do these units have any value in the game ? What happens if they are eliminated ?
Anybody out there who is still undecided about HTTR you should purchase it as soon as possible. Every serious wargamer should have this game, especially if you enjoy Company level operational games.
I will definitely be getting the next in the series --COTA.
