What is a good mission elevation for different types of planes.

I started doing missions with the default settings, and my Level Bombers were bombing ships at 20,000. Couldn't hit a carrier with a A-bomb. I dropped the elevation down to 10,000 and seem to be doing better. I would assume the trade off would be more aircraft losses to AA.

Just wanted to pick some brains.

5000 ft is good for level bombers to attack ships. 100 if they have enough experience to skip bomb.

How much experience do they need to skip bomb?

Around 70 I believe.

65 exp and up

I myself use 8000 feet for naval attacks for level bombers - unless skip bombing..

Remember going to the lake and skipping stones across the water?

Imagine being a Japanese merchant captain or the captain of a warship and seeing the payload of 500 lb bombs from a B-25 skipping across the water towards your ship.

....holy shit! I never knew bombers actually did that! You can't do that with torpedoes too can you[:'(]? And btw is that photo historical?

*Sigh* Don't they teach these kids the Battle of the Bismarck Sea anymore? [:D] Skip-bombing is even prettier as a painting.

I don't think that the Battle of Bismark Sea would be included in a Canadian's history teachings. Our countries' tend to teach the history of their own nation to a large extent, it is unforunate as a knowledge of other countries history would help improve understanding.

I'm sure Freud would have a few things to say about it.

Basically, the bomber attacks from a low level-really low. When the bomb is released is literally skips over the surface just like a flat stone will when thrown. If done right the bomb will smack up against the side of the ship and penetrate or begin to sink. With a timed release fuse set for just a second or two. The bomb will detonate underwater against the hull of the ship and have the same sort of effect that a torpedo warhead will. That is, using the force of an explosion in water to crush the hull.

Medium bombers and fighter bombers were the best for this, but even a few boss jocks in heavies did it. It really laid on a dose of whupass when done correctly.

Similiar to the dam buster raids.

Dam busters used special bomb which was designed to sink near bottom of the dam and crush it by hydraulic impact.

Yep and the internet too. Just more of a leap to expect someone from another country to be up on another country's history.

The dam buster bombs were launched with a backspin so that they would stick to the dam wall and roll down rather than bounce off or up prior to explosion. The detentation point for those was well below waterline.
