Loading and playing WIR on DOS...

Greetings,

I have downloaded WIR from the Matrix link onto a CD-R, but am having difficulty installing it onto my hard drive so I can run it through DOS. I have an old Win 98 laptop, that can be restarted in DOS, but cannot figure out the problem. I have tried to run it straight from the D:/ drive on DOS, with no luck.

The website refers me to 'the data card' for installation, but where do I find that? I am traveling now, and used to have this game on my old Win 95 desktop. I did not bring the software with me.

It's been forever since I fooled with DOS. I welcome any and ALL help here.

Thanks in advance!

i cut and pasted an old post by radical from last febuary:

Please see my prior posts on using DOSBOX, a dos emulator. It includes ega bios level font and graphics support, and also maximizes dos conventional memory (useful in WinXP). It allows WIR to be played inside a window or full screen. Download current version here:

http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/download.php?main=1

There is a learning curve; please read instructions (really very simple vs. the learning curve for WIR). It is the only way WIR (or PACWAR) can be played on many modern laptops.

Thank you for your helpful reply... However, the laptop I am using is an older one with Win 98, specifically bought to play older games.

I have the capability to reboot in DOS. I just can't get the software I downloaded onto a CD to play or install on my computer.

There is supposed to be a 'data card' that walks you through it, but did not come with the download. I am unable to hook up my laptop to the download source.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm ready to conquer Eastern Germany...

Mike

Game should work in DOS-Window

Unzip the file from Matrixgames (or better the flanker mod) to a newly created directory and doubleclick on wir.exe .
