Leaders killed or wounded during the combat

I just would like to understand how the probability that a leader is killed in the melee engagement is calculated.
I know it is random but what is the percentage which is applied?
After playing the game for a while I have got the impression that a same unit has killed several enemy leaders in the battle and it has occured several times. Is this normal or I have been particularly lucky?[&:]Could be my imagination also...
Thanks in advance for any explanations you could be able to provide me.

First, a leader can only be killed when taking damage againt the last stand (i.e., this is the leader's stand.)

Second, the chance of killing a leader is about 15% if his unit is completely eliminated. There is a modifier for heroic commanders that gives you a slightly better chance to kill the enemy's commander.

Thanks.
Just need a presicion about that:the leader could be killed even if the last stand is not completely eliminated.
Am I correct?

I have also got another question about the leader replacement:could it be possible to implement the display for the available leader's quality before validating the substitution?I have tried several times to replace leaders but the new one were worse...I suppose it was intended but it could be a good improvement for future episode.

Yes. There is a roll to kill/wound the commander for each step loss on the last stand.

The idea behind this is that you are replacing a commander with a field commander travelling with your army. You really don't know what you are going to get, so you are taking your chances.
