It is nothing like Pacific General if that's what you're asking. Here you have every vessel, every plane and very btn (apprarently) that fought in the theatre from India to all points east plus grand strategic production to control.

Then add an entire level called logistics.

WitP is a game requiring a true investment of focus to learn, play and then master.

If you want purely tactical naval warfare try the HPS Naval Battles series (Jutland, Tsushima, Guadalcanal). If you want full strategic and operational air/land/sea in the Pacific, this is the only way to go.

Adam.

They do both have hexagons. That's pretty much where the similarity ends. [:D]

If you haven't bought the game yet you might try Uncommon Valor first to get an idea about WiTP. WiTP is sorta the same thing only x100 or so.

Well, don't let it go at that.

I suggest you read the AAR's as they will give you a good feel for how the game works. If you decide you do like it, the small scenario suggestion given above is bang on. Wading in step by simple step will really minimize the difficulty shock. This really is an immensely complex game, but a little determination, patience, and this forum will be enough to help you get a handle on it should you choose to make the purchase.[:)]

Was it a Clint Eastwood character who said, "I man has to know his own limits"?

Well I came into WITP having never played anything of this complexity before and I turned out ok....It has taken me a bit to get the hang of everything but as long as you don't mind getting your ass handed to you for a bit things don't go too bad.

I never played a game this complicated before either.

UV is a good start, but so are the smaller scenarios. Playing the full campaign takes a LOT of time first.

But WITP is THE STRATEGY GAME. If you read about strategy, you realize that very-very few games model it at all (despite calling themselves strategy). WITP does model strategy and also tactics to some extent. For strategy on a grand scale THIS is THE GAME.

Well, if you have UV, then the battle is already won.

The real shock comes when you load up one of the full campaign scenarios. My first reaction was, "What the hell am I supposed to do with all of this?!" Then I realized the answer is, well... anything I want. I've never looked back.[:D]

If you like UV, you'll probably like WitP.
