Naval Shipyard repair points are freebies??

Naval Shipyard repair points appear to have no cost in either HI or supplies. Is this so? Japan actually gets something for free?! I was just getting ready to shut all the little ones down, but if there is no cost, now I'm thinking about maxing some of them out (I realize the expansion would cost supply)....

No cost that I know of. Just gotta pay the supplies to increase them. Remember in small ports isnt much point to lots of repair facilities.

Seriously: I am considering building a repair yard that has the capacity to repair a Yamato Class Ship. This has to be 2x185 = 370 points. Quite an investment. Is this valid or crazy ?

I usually build up Tokio to more than 300. It is also quite useful to increase repair shipyards in other size 10 ports in Japan. I have noticed that Shangai (port 9) with 90 repair yards is usually the best place for my BB repairs, as Tokio and Osaka are usually full of other smaller ships as well. I've put BBs in lots of size 10 ports, some had more than 100 repair shipyards, but somehow Shangai with no fleet HQ and no AR ships was always fastest in repairing my large ships... I've observed this in almost a year of game time, dont' know if I just had luck in Shangai or what...

Do you see this as a good cost benefit ?
I would increase all ports <10 to at least 10.

I thought you couldn´t expand ports to size 10. Isn´t size 9 the max?

And for the umpteenth time and just to make sure: none of this applies to the Allies, right? Their production and repairs stuff is on auto-pilot, right?

You cant affect allied repair facilities. The rationale being that since it takes supply and the allies get x amount of free supply a day, they would have an unfair advantage. One more way the system prevents the allies from truely controlling their side.
Now wait patiently for the Japanese Fan boys to chime in with, "The allies already have to much" hopefully in unison.

We are not talking about the PORT size. You are right, limited to 10, provided SRA allows that or the cost is not too much.
We are talking about SHIP REPAIR YARDS. For Japan, these can be expanded, but not for the Allies. Allies, of course, can expand PORT size like the IJN.

A port can only expand to 9 though. The only 10's are prewar ports.
