Following from the discussion of the importance of Cherbourg vs Carentan in the "Map, stacking and localities" thread:

My point is there is alot of very good play...

Without a doubt. Thing is for the BiN "grognards" amongst us [:'(] - those who truly have become immersed in this game, the wishes for historical chrome may now start to surface.

This type of issue is going to be very interesting in the design of the forthcoming Sicily/Italy.

I'd love to hear from the designers how they are tackling things such as; the Germans creating and holding their various defensive lines, the need for the Allies to launch operations "Avalanche" (Salerno) and "Shingle" (Anzio) in that order, the "vile tactical puzzle" of Cassino (as for Caen in Normandy) being the artery into and through the Liri Valley, the role and comings and goings of the SS... So much more complexity-wise in this forthcoming title than merely (not) the struggle for a single French port!

Also the need to take into account the almost Green levels of experience possesed by the Allies. Will there be a race for Messina? Can the US forces land at Palermo in Sicily? Will Sicily be the prerequisite for invading Italy? Can the Germans retreat into the boot? Do Allied sea lanes to Italy open up only once Messina has been caputred? Oh boy, I like the idea of this next title [:D]

Adam.
Edit typo!
