Just played my first game of HTTR online...and what an experiance!

Hi!
I purchased HTTR when it was first released, but never ventured out into playing it online with a human opponent. Well I broke that record tonight, and played 'crunch time' as the 7th Armoured. What an experiance! First of all, I will say that it was totally stable, i.e no lock ups or any debilitating things going on with the connection; secondly, I found the experiance to be much more exciting than playing against the AI...having to think how I would play the Germans; thirdly, making the full use of my units such as using recon to probe out a position, watching my flanks, being ultra cautious with every move, using the withdraw and delay commands like I never have done before. What rules in this scenario is the artillery (like I guess it did later on the war), which has the ability to completely stop dead a well thought out attack.
Just thought I would post this -- kudos to Panther games for making the experiance enjoyable!

Well we will continue tomorrow night, but so far its a close thing. Both our main attacks came to nothing due to the artillery..they were stopped dead in their tracks. Also, sending armour through trees is not conducive to success....especially when up against panzer grenadiers. Thought I would try and pull off a quick move to the objective on my right flank and then maybe swing around at the top of the hill, but he was prepared. [:-]
Good stuff

Well, myself and my opponent finished the scenario last night, and I lost with a marginal defeat, despite inflicting about 1.5k more infantry casualites on him than me. However, he inflicted over 150 more AFV casualities on me and held two objectives which I just could not take because we had fought each other to a standstill, and our forces were heavily depleted.
One thing I thought strange was that I didnt have one Sherman 75, my armour consisted of Challengers and Cromwells entirely. Didnt 7th armoured use Shermans in '44?
All in all though a great game, which for me playing online made HTTR shine a lot more brightly than it does playing against the AI. Thanks for creating the game.

Hi Kev
It's true, 7 Armoured had Cromwells as it's main armament. From what I read, they were none too pleased about it either ... t'wasn't a very good tank but then few British tanks were until the introduction of the Comet and then the Centurion, all of which arrived a bit too late.
I think the consensus was that the British 17 pounder equipped Sherman (Firefly) was the best Allied tank.

Just thought I would post as I was the German opponent against Kev. AS he said we had a blast as we played the 3 day battle over three nights. My first real experience online as well and all I cant praise this game enough. There is so much more to learn that I have even started reading the manual. Not a for two forces to pummel each other thank goodness but manouvering really paid dividends.
We are setting up another to play over the next few weeks and I encourage everyone to make the effort to play online. Maybe if we get enough people to play we can get some sort of tourney or ladder going.
I was sure I had seen pposted somewhere that there may be a mod to allow 4 or even 6 people play at once. If this ever happens im giving up work!!!! [:)]

Glad you enjoyed it guys. Team Play is on our wish list and yest it would be a blast. But it's a big feature and is not slotted for development just yet.

I have yet to play this game on line. Tell me, how is it with a dial up connection?

It's 'normal' head-to-head connection with TCP/IP-protocol, so you can connect to anyone who have internet connection. One need to be server and another will connect to it using his ip-address.
Did HTTR have a chat? I have play one online game with RDOA, but I don't remeber to use chat. It's always nice to have somekind of possibility to sen messages to opponent.

It sure does, just hit enter, type your message and hit enter again.

There's a ladder/league over at wargamer.com. Not much action just yet, but if more people start to use it...

I played it quite happily with dial-up. The only problem I had was that I had a 2 hour limit on how long I could remain online in a single session. Playing the game over a broadband connection makes for a slightly smoother experience but it's only marginally better thast way.
